She appeared before Amber and Dal as a lost girl wandering the city streets clutching her teddy bear, it turned out Cloe had been separated from her group of friends; Salene, Patsy and Paul. They were all later reunited and together found what was to be their home, the Phoenix Mall. Cloe, like her friend Patsy, had a fondness for animals, she seemed to feel secure around animals and found them to be more trusting than humans...

Time went by, in series two, Cloe and her BFF Patsy turned their interests to make-up, boys and dating, though that was short lived as the Chosen arrived and disrupted the lives of the city folk. Under the rule of the Chosen in series three, Cloe had to choose between staying loyal to the Mall Rats or joining the Chosen. She became a spy for the Mall Rats by joining the Chosen, she was found out though and sent 'to the mines'. However, unlike some, she returned and witness the downfall of the Chosen and the arrival of a new tribe to the city, The Techno's.

With new technology came new experiences. In the fourth series, Cloe met her downfall, she fell in love with a high ranking Techno programmer, namely Ved. Though she loved him she was using him to gain information to use against his Tribe. The Techno leader Ram, unhappy with Cloe and Ved's relationship, decided to take her out of the picture - quiet literally. In a bizarre storyline Cloe entered a 'reality space' game and when she came out she was physically replaced by The Tribe's May. Cloe was never to be seen again...

In the interview below Jaimee talks about working on The Tribe, her character Cloe and on how life is.

Jaimee in the Abemessiah music video.
How did you get the role of Cloe? What kind of audition process did you go through?
Went through the traditional audition process, of call backs, script readings and so on.

Cloe and her teddy bear - Series 1; Patsy and Cloe with the Supreme Mother, Trudy - Series 2In series one Cloe brought most of the characters together. Firstly she brought Amber and Dal to Salene, Patsy and Paul and she later brought Tai-San to the mall. When she was she was chased she dropped her teddy bear which led to Lex, Ryan and Zandra joining them. What are your thoughts about Cloe in the beginning of The Tribe and her role in the Mall Rats?
I think Cloe always had a 'spiritual/ intuitive', hard to describe, kind of way about her. Not like Tai-San, a lot less than that, but that kind of makeup!! I do think she brought the Mall Rats together but her role was one of a child. She wasn't one of the older ones, she was too young and had her own ideas and loved her animals and didn't think about her safety enough, I guess!! The Mall Rats provided safety, comfort and friends so that was lucky for Cloe. As Cloe got older in the series she went through the issues relating to growing up.

As you were of a similar age to your character, did it help you to relate to Cloe more and the issues she dealt with? Also how would you define your relationship with the character Cloe?
I was quite a few years older than what Cloe was suppose to be, so I think personally I was ahead development wise than her, so it was more like a reflection on my own life when her issues came about. I think me and Cloe definitely have similarities but far more differences then similarities!! She was a little meek and mild at a young age - I was feisty.

You left in series 3 of The Tribe after being taken away by the Chosen, you then later returned in the series. What did you get up to during that period you had to leave filming series 3?
Ummm, had to deal with personal issues really!!

Looking back, do you think life may have panned out differently if you hadn't played Cloe?
Oh yeah hugely, I mean I'm a big believer that everything that happens in your life shapes you. So it definitely shaped me in ways, had I not had the role I would be different in ways - for sure - it was a real experience.

As you are living in New Zealand, you are able to see certain cast members of The Tribe in different TV shows. What are your thoughts about that? Is it strange seeing them on screen as different characters as you had once worked with them?
Its cool seeing the others on different TV things - you know them on a personal level which sometimes makes it hard believing the story lines they are in though!!

Make-up photo of Jaimee from series four of The TribeYou didn't get to go on a Tribe Tour in Europe/America and in New Zealand The Tribe wasn't that popular as it was in many other countries. Have you had any experiences with meeting fans?
Yeah I have, but more for other things, not The Tribe - that was minimal.

I'm not sure about how well you are known in New Zealand but you are globally popular through being in The Tribe. Knowing that you were seen and are known globally, has that affected you in any sense?
I've been known globally for a while so it's something that's always been with me and I think its neat - but don't tend to give it much thought actually.

Since starring in The Tribe have you watched the series?
No I haven't unfortunately, only ever seen the first and 2nd series but would love to see the others!!

You are still with an agency, what sort of roles would you love to play?
Not really acting at present - motherhood and studying is very full on.

What has happened in your life since you left the show?
Since the show I continued to do my schooling, both at public school and through correspondence. In all honesty I went off track for a few years, made some bad choices, chose to hang with an undesirable crowd participating in some not so good activities, but I came out of it and think even my mistakes have made me who I am today so you live and you learn. I am also very blessed to have a son, Phoenix, who is 5 now.

Jaimee Kaire GatauluI hope you don't mind me asking, but how are you finding motherhood?
I absolutely love motherhood; it is the greatest blessing in the world. I am learning everyday. Being a young mother, you change quite fast, having a little life to raise and take care of changes your whole world. He is the greatest surprise in my life and it’s great to love someone unconditionally.
I would also like to mention that he has been diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum, and while it has taken me many years to get to where I am about this issue - I finally accept that this is how it is. In saying that though, there are many things that I have tried and continue to try as I believe I can help him reach his full potential - being labelled and diagnosed as autistic doesn't mean it’s incurable or it’s not fixable!
I am passionate and determined to help him come and experience the world we live in, in the way typical people do - it’s a big journey and I’m still on it, but when we reach the end result all the ups and downs, highs and lows will be worth it!! I also must say I am a big fan of the Body Ecology Diet by Donna Gates.

Is there a fan/agency address that your fans can write to you?
Look me up on Facebook under Jaimee Rae Kaire [quick link]. I can be very busy but I love to hear from fans and do my best to reply : )

And finally, do you have a message for your fans out there?
Thank you for all the friendly messages, for the kind suggestions relating to things I may try to help my son, thank you for the support and feel free to drop by my [Facebook] page and say hey!! Always focus on the positives in life, believe in yourself and you can achieve anything!! Never give up : )
