{my auckland} Antonia Prebble
Antonia Prebble, the cunning Loretta West from television’s Outrageous Fortune, tells us about the joys of living in Auckland.
* Antonia stars in the style pages of Metro’s May issue, on sale now.
1 ) Auckland neighbourhood where your heart lies?
Grey Lynn. I lived there for a year and a half, so it really felt like home. It reminds me of a Wellington suburb that was home for the first 20 years of my life, which brings it even closer to my heart.
2 ) Favourite Auckland place?
Western Springs Park is definitely up there. It’s really beautiful and I love the ducks, except when they invite themselves along to your picnic.
3 ) Favourite outdoor Auckland activity?
Picnics in one of the many great parks there are here. I think they’re one of Auckland’s greatest assets. And I’m just a picnic nut really.
4 ) What do you like most about living in Auckland?
The weather. It really is so much warmer here than Wellington.
5 ) If you could change one thing about the city, what would it be?
Have more low-key, comfortable cafes that you can hang out in for as long as you want, and that stay open past 4pm.
6 ) Favourite bar?
Shanghai Lil’s – wonderful décor, fantastic vibe and music that isn’t too loud to have a conversation over.
7 ) Favourite restaurant?
The Grove – pretty much the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life.
8 ) Place you could spend hours wiling away the time?
In my hammock in my garden reading a book. That’s the epitome of relaxation for me.
9 ) Favourite shop or shopping area?
Ponsonby Road – great variety of shops, and free parking.
10 ) Acting in Auckland or studies and beyond in Wellington?
Acting in Auckland plus studying via correspondence at the moment. Although I would love an excuse to go back to Wellington for a while (preferably in summer) so I could spend more time with my family.
