![]() Most of you will recognise Antonia Prebble for playing strong-willed Loretta West on the oh-so-hot Kiwi television show Outrageous Fortune. But this talented 24-year-old has been in New Zealand’s television industry longer than you may think.TV roles and Loretta West Antonia has been steadily making a name for herself since scoring her first professional acting job on children’s television series, Mirror Mirror 2, at the age of 12.She has since garnered a rather impressive list of TV roles on her resume. This includes a one-year job presenting kid’s programme What Now? and a core role on cult hit show The Tribe. Now, Antonia’s focus has been diverted to Loretta, a role which she has played since filming the first series of Outrageous Fortune in 2005. Antonia, who is currently living in Auckland, is having a great time playing the feisty young woman. She loves “the fact that she’s got so much scope”. Antonia says, “[Outrageous Fortune is] far more creatively satisfying than other jobs I’ve had. The material is so good, you can really sink your teeth into it, so it’s really rewarding.” A typical day on the set She adds, “We block the scene, then the lighting and camera department work out their moves etc. and we (the actors) come back on set and shoot the scene. Each scene takes about two hours and we film for 10.45 hours a day.” Phew. That’s a long day! Outside Outrageous She actually started out studying it conjoint with law at Victoria University in Wellington, but discovered in the early stages that law wasn’t her calling. “Originally I wanted to do a double degree, but after a year of law school I found it just wasn’t me,” she says. “I thought continuing with a degree I’d never use wasn’t worth it, no matter how much kudos it would get me. So I decided to just focus on arts.” Travelling dramas Antonia says, “We had a car accident in Mexico with Aidee Walker (Draska on Outrageous Fortune). We were fine but potentially could have died.” What’s next? She says, “Hopefully it will go on after Outrageous Fortune and also overseas in future. I’d love to be working overseas within the next five years.” THE EXTRA QUESTIONS…
