Fleur and Beth : Dressed For Success, Serving With Style...

Shortland Street (and Tribe!) co-stars Fleur Saville (Libby Jeffries) and Beth Allen (Brooke Freeman) both attended the 2009 Dress For Success Celebrity Waiters Dinner event at the Hyatt Regency in Auckland on May 15th. The charity event sees celebrities waiting on tables, money raised at the event goes to helps women get back into the workplace.

Judging by the pics, it looks like Beth was waiting on a table. Yet she still manages to look glam! Images from the event are from theAlist (where else?!) with thanks to bethallen.webs.com for the info.

Jacob Tomuri, who played Luke in The Tribe series 3, features in a short film called Ergotism. It is also based on a true story… Jacob plays Mat, David Van Horn as Shotgun and Eve Gordon as Sharon. Ergotism starring Jacob Tomuri and David Van Horn Ergotism - Jacob Tomuri Profile

The short was released in 2008, so this is old news, but it is doing the rounds at film festivals – appearing next at the 25th Hamburg International Kurzfilm Festival in Germany on June 4th and 7th 2009. More details from the festival website are here. The IMDB listing is here. I believe the film maker is hoping to turn it to a feature film in future.

Thomas Sainsbury : On Little Blonde Hen & The Tribe Ladies

Thomas Sainsbury

The creator of Little Blonde Hen (featuring three of our favourites actresses), playwrite Thomas Sainsbury, has spoken about working with the stars of The Tribe, their skills and the roles they play in the production, aswell as his playwriting. Read it, it’s not long and is a good insight on the play and how Beth, Tori and Toni work.

Antonia Prebble in Little Blonde Hen You’ve worked with Victoria Spence, Antonia Prebble and Beth Allen in the past, how did you manage to get them together for this production?
The three actresses are great friends in real life so I think they wanted to work together. And then I just wrote a script and sent it their way and they were all keen. And Antonia is currently in hiatus from Outrageous Fortune so it all worked out brilliantly. I just think the universe was smiling on me at the time.

What qualities do you think they each bring to the play?
They’re all terrific actresses and workers in general. Tori’s playing the lead and brings a great, vulnerable centre to the piece. Beth is playing the villain and she’s brilliant at really getting into a character and just asking questions, and working things out all the time, making everything right. And Antonia is playing the OCD maid of honour and brings a brilliant, erratic energy to the part. She also has awesome comic timing and is great at delivery the joke lines, or changing them so they are funnier.

Victoria, Beth, Antonia… And A Little Blonde Hen…?!?

Trudy (Antonia Prebble), Salene (Victoria Spence) and Amber (Beth Allen) in The Tribe No, it’s nothing disturbing like two girls and one cup (pop culture reference – lol), it is infact three of the original Tribe girls in the same stage production!!! It has been 10 years since we saw all three fighting over Bray, on screen, in The Tribe… Things have sure moved on.

Antonia Prebble in Little Blonde Hen Beth Allen, Antonia Prebble and Tori Spence will all be in the Thomas Sainsbury production Little Blonde Hen. They’re no strangers to the writer/director’s work; Victoria previously featured in his production The Beast, Antonia was in And Then You Die and Beth Allen in The Feminine. All the girls are acomplished performers on stage and screen, making it definitely a play to see!

Little Blonde Hen The full cast list for the production is as follows: Beth Allen, Serena Cotton, Siobhan Marshall, Antonia Prebble, Victoria Spence, Claire Van Beek and Jessica Joy Wood. The play “follows a group of girlfriends as their evening disintegrates into drunken debauchery” and is described as “a play about joy, despair and penis straws” – How lovely!

The play is on for four nights from June 11th onwards. More details and full info available here and below. Now, only one question remains… Where can I get a penis straw?!

Jessie Gurunathan : After The Tribe : From Farm to Fame…

Jessie Gurunathan

Jessie Gurunathan played Dawn in The Tribe, the farm girl ‘with attitude’, who appeared in only three episodes. In series one episode 32 she appeared alongside Vanessa Stacey, who had a guest appearance as Alice – the owner of a farm. In series two of The Tribe Vanessa Stacey became a member of the core cast and in episodes 6 and 7 Jess made her second appearance on the show. The character Dawn had alot to say, she was opinionated, had attitude and made an impression as she was one of the few characters on the series who were of a south asian descent…

Ella Wilks : The Tribe : 10 Year Anniversary Interview!

Ella Wilks as Danni in The TribeElla Wilks arrived in The Tribe series 2 as Danni. Her first moments in the series involved holding a crossbow and aiming it at our hero Bray. She integrated herself herself into the Mallrats though, but her presence was under scrutiny by her fellow Tribe members – in the same way the character was scrutinised by fans as being too ‘Amber-like’…

Ella WilksIn the interview Ella talks about getting into the character of Danni, working on and leaving the show, her friendship with fellow cast members as well as an insight to her travels and future plans. You may have loved hating Danni, but you gotta love Ella Wilks; to me this is the best interview so far – probably my biased opinion as I’ve always been a Danni fan ; )

Read the interview yourself, click here to check it out. The German translation of the interview can be found here. Thank you to those of you who submitted questions to Ella via this site and by e-mail, they were brilliant!

Tribe-alicious Cake : Mmmm, Yummy, Yummy…

Well it is the ten year anniversary for The Tribe, so I thought I’d post these pics of a Tribe cake (made to order) by Joseph – a fan of the show. It sure does look tasty! The graphic used on the cake can be found here – it’s an old wallpaper I made for The Tribe. I feel hungry all of a sudden…

Fleur Saville : Set To Entertain At NZ Comedy Festival '09

Fleur Saville Fleur Saville, who played Ruby in series 5 of The Tribe, is set to take to the stage in the one hour production Andrew Clay’s Book Of Love. The comedy production is a series of scenes and discussions about love which addresses the big issues, including; One Night Stand Etiquette, How To Tell If She’s Mental and When To Lose An Argument.
Definitely sounds like a fun production, maybe for the older viewers, though their is no age restriction in place. Fleur previously played a comedic role in the Eight Reindeer Monologues, another show which was for mature audiences.
