Great news for Dwayne fans! Dwayne Cameron is filming in a new series called The Cult made by Great Southern Film & Television. A description of the series is as follows:
The Cult is a 13-part serialised event drama aimed at the 18-39 demographic and written for TV2. Think Prison Break meets Lost. A group of hot young 20-somethings are trapped within a bizarre cult. As the “mysterious” Enhancement Day approaches – some members desperately want to get out. But they can’t … the Leader is deranged; the rules of engagement have changed. Cult members are factionalised – so turning against the charismatic Leader isn’t as easy as it sounds. And those trapped within the cult are starting to unearth some unseemly secrets.
Sounds quiet interesting… The Chosen on larger scale? Dwayne Cameron plays the character Nathan who is a member of the core cast. The series is filmed in Auckland during April through August. It is hopefully broadcasting on New Zealand’s TV2 around Oct/December.
More info here from New Zealand Herald…
The acclaimed cast will feature former McLeod’s Daughter Lisa Chappell, Law & Order’s Latham Gaines, EastEnders actor Andrew Grainger and Shortland Street’s Renato Bartolomei, alongside award-winning Kiwi actors Kate Elliot and Scott Wills.
The series received $6.45 million in NZoA funding and will be written by Kathryn Burnett, Nick Ward and Peter Cox – the same people behind The Strip, Street Legal (Dwayne Cameron was previously a main character in Street Legal) and The Insider’s Guide to Happiness.

Judging by the description, that show sounds awesome, although it can end up being crap if they don’t do it right. Can’t wait to check it out. I hope Dwayne gets an interesting character, because he hasn’t played very challenging characters up to this point (as I’m aware of).
Also, when I read the Latham Gaines name, I knew I’d heard it somewhere before. Turned out he starred in PR: Dino Thunder along with Dwayne, Toni, Tom, James and Miriama, AND he was the other half of Tom’s band Theodore High. Interesting tidbit, for anyone who cares. :P
Hi, that is pretty interesting! I didn’t know about Latham Gaines, so thanks for the tid bit lol.
Hopefully they’ll do this new series okay. I’m looking forward to finding out more about it.
It sounds worth a watch, but I won’t hold my breath. Of course, that’s assuming that we Americans will have a chance to see it. A combo of those two shows, though, just makes me think “contrived”. However, being a loyal Tribe fan I will watch anything any of them them do and be happy about it!
I definitely see what you mean ‘Beard’. Hopefully it’ll be good though.
Oh, that sounds fascinating! Also, I hope Dwayne gets a good part (and a good hairstyle, for a change!) He should be brilliant at playing a cult member, seeing how good he is at playing extreme emotions.
I can’t speak for “Prison Break”, as I always got bored after 2 minutes of it, but if they take the element of isolation and interesting characters being trapped and forced to co-exist plus the back story element from “Lost”, its a good start. Only please let the lead charas be better than those in “Lost”
I hope I can watch full episodes somewhere once it has aired!
From Dwayne’s website:
“He is playing the role of Nathan Lewis, a young man who has acute schizophrenia.”

BTW, the “18-39 demographic”, “Think Prison Break meets Lost” sort of blether is for biznezz marketing purposes. Let’s hope the writer focused on story and not fitting into the dull and unimaginative biznezz niche garbage. So far so good from what I’m reading. I have no doubt Dwayne will add to the quality of the show.
