We begged, we stole, we borrowed…
Check out this brilliant interview with James Napier Robertson and Tom Hern on their ‘psychological movie thriller’ I’m Not Harry Jenson…
On the eve before the premiere of their movie, the guys talk about getting the money, the cast and the numerous issues faced on their journey in film making.
There’s a snippet of The Tribe in the video too! Ian Mune, who was a director on The Tribe, speaks about his previous work with the guys and how the tables were turned when they approached him to star in their film… The interview video is from TVNZ. We have more info on the movie here & the official site is here.
From TVNZ:
In the United States, an average blockbuster film costs more than $250 million. Compare that to the $5 million most New Zealand film makers have to produce a movie. Seems dismal, but it would be a budget James Napier Roberston and Tom Hern could only have dreamt of.
The cash-strapped pair had the ambition to make a back-of-the-woods whodunit, and succeeded with sheer check and determination to make a slick thriller.
Close Up reporter Robyn James spoke to the pair to figure out how they did it.
The event page on Facebook for the I’m Not Harry Jenson film premiere is here. Tom and James’ fellow Tribe stars Nick Miller, Victoria Spence, Beth Allen, Fleur Saville, Vicky Rodewyk and Calen Maiava Paris have all expressed an interest in attending the premiere, so it should be quiet the tribal gathering! If you’re attending please do send us your photos of the cast please! Pleeeease! ;)

They look great! I hope this film comes to the UK, it looks quiet interesting from what I have seen in the trailer and so much hard work and dedication has gone into it. Well done to the guys!
I hope you do get photos from the premiere *fingers crossed*
ooo I Remember when i met Tom he was such a gentleman and will never forget that day when i met him he is such a bright young star in my eyes!
I’m not keen on the facial fuzz, but the guys are still hotties! Wouldn’t mind them whipping out them Techno outfits and running about in them! Lol.
I’m loving this news about them and the movie, best of luck to the guys with the premiere. I do hope you get photos from it also.
Jessica you are lucky to be meeting Tom! I met him and James briefly at the London signing. They were friendly but I wish I chatted more to them! Oh well.
The reporter forgot to mention that they were also on Power Rangers: DinoThunder. Although, Tom wasn’t a ranger.
This interview is brilliant. I’m in Wellington sadly though so can’t make the premiere tonight, but I do hope to catch it when it comes to town.
I think the interview didn’t mention Power Rangers because that series is not allowed to be broadcast in New Zealand (don’t ask!) and by mentioning The Tribe, Robyn, – who’s doing the interview – neatly links to the interview with Ian Mune who also worked on The Tribe.
It’s amazing how much old and young up-coming NZ talent starred in Raymond Thompson’s The Tribe, yet the series never fully got the recognition and support here.
Well, all the best with the premiere guys! Hope to see pics from the event.
That is so fantastic! Awesome interview. :D
James is also attending the NZ film festival…cute photo of him there.

And they’ve got so much facial hair now! :p
