Beth Chote, who played Lottie in The Tribe 5, is headlining in New Zealand’s new online interactive series Reservoir Hill. In the series she plays the character Beth Channing who arrives at a new town where alot of mysterious things are happening… Check the trailer out, it looks intense!
Viewers can interact with Beth (the character) by texting her mobile and messaging her online via Bebo. Check out the official site at TVNZ for more info. Sadly the brilliant new series, dubbed “as dark as Twilight and as bitchy as Gossip Girl”, is only viewable in New Zealand.
With thanks to Ross for the info.
More on Reservoir Hill from TVNZ:
Get ready for Reservoir Hill – New Zealand’s online drama for the Twilight generation, where viewers can interact with the main character and become involved in her story.
Uprooted from her home life in rural Ruakowhai, Beth Connolly is forced to move to a strange new suburb when her parents separate. Starting in a new town, in a new school, is a daunting process – especially when the place is filled with freaks who keep inexplicably staring at her.
Scared and lonely, she needs the support of her mates to help her figure out what’s going on. Every Monday afternoon there will be a new episode uploaded to tvnz.co.nz, and every Thursday a new video blog, so she can explain what’s going on in her head. All the while, viewers can contact Beth and tell her what they think.
Jason Paris, Head of Digital Media and Marketing, says that TVNZ jumped at the chance to be involved in this new drama experience.
“TVNZ is New Zealand’s leading television and digital media company, and tvnz.co.nz is an important part of TVNZ’s digital offering. Although Kiwis mainly use TVNZ Ondemand to catch-up on their favourite TVNZ shows, we are delighted to also offer additional unique content,” says Paris.
The masterminds behind this innovative new programme are David Stubbs and Thomas Robins from KHF Media, who are thrilled to be bringing the unique drama format to New Zealand – the first of its kind in this country.
Director David Stubbs says: “It’s something that’s innovative, experimental and exciting. The fact that viewers can interact with the central character, and drive the story forward, means the show is organic, collaborative, and anything could happen.”
Thomas Robins explains that the show is as dark as Twilight and as bitchy as Gossip Girl , exploring all the issues that teenagers face, from relationships to fitting in at school, but with a mysterious central storyline running throughout the series which will have people intrigued from the very first episode.
“Everyone in Reservoir Hill is freaked out by Beth, and she has no idea why,” Robins elaborates. “That story links all the episodes, but her personal journey is directly affected by the viewers – by becoming an online friend, by watching her blogs, or even by texting her, they really do become a part of the story.”
Send her a message on Bebo, and she talks back. Text her, and the message could pop up on her phone in the show – and the advice given then steers the story to its natural conclusion, good or bad.
The series is a real challenge for the filmmakers, who will analyse all the audience feedback before going straight into production on the new episode each week.
“We’re sure that Kiwi kids are going to be fascinated by Beth, and our ambition is to create something that is truly unique and engaging, that’s the hottest thing on the web,” Stubbs says.

oh great, something new from Beth Chote what is allowed to use =)
For me the trailer seems really interesting
ooo she has changed allot!! well done Beth!!
It is great news. I’m glad as it’s a new cast member addition to the site. I hope it does well and all the best to Beth.
It’s a shame it’s only for New Zealand viewers. I hope someone puts it on you tube because it looks great. I love the trailer. She looks so much older and sassier and wiser than she was in The Tribe as Lottie. I didn’t like Lottie, but I think this new character will be a great role for her.
i just watched the first episode of it now. it looks really cool, can’t wait for more!
Where did you get the episodes from?

Ye I got it a few days ago, brilliant, thanks Clare!
Hey, I’m the person who has been uploading the Reservoir Hill episodes onto youtube. The third episode is up at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJaXcsUvhig and I’m hoping to continue putting them up for non-NZ viewers like you guys. :)
So glad someone has done it!
YAY FINALLY THANK YOU!!
You’re welcome :D
A bit off-topic but there’s a kid’s show a couple years old called ‘The Killian’s Curse’ (webpage is here http://tvnz.co.nz/the-killian-curse/show-1288535) and Jacinta Wawatai was in it. They made two seasons and all of season one is up on the ondemand website and I’m not sure if it’s for NZ viewers only.. http://tvnz.co.nz/the-killian-curse/video
If anyone is interested, I could upload the episodes? Season 2 isn’t up on the website and hasn’t been released on dvd though.
well i have season one! But would love to e 2! also would love to see erm that singing Kids show as Meryl Was in it Karaoke Highif you can get that online!! xxx
Seen Season 1 it was released on dvd…
Oh wow, please do put up Killian Curse aswell, please. I think several members of The New Tomorrow cast were also in it, it would be great to see it, that is of course if it is of no trouble to you that is.
I’d just like to add I really appreciate the work you are doing putting Reservoir Hill up online, I am really enjoying it, it’s a shame it’s only shown weekly! I’m going to write a seperate post about the episodes you’re putting up on youTube as I don’t think everyone reads the comments!
Thanks again,
Clare.
@Jessica: Season Two wasn’t released on dvd sadly and it’s not up on the website either so I can’t get it :( As for Karaoke High, I don’t see it up in the ondemand website, sorry! :(
@Clare: Aww, thank you and you’re welcome! :D It is a shame it’s only out once a week but it makes sense since they film after getting people’s suggestions sent in to them by text/bebo after Wednesdays which gives them a couple days to work on the next episode. I hope I just got my facts right, haha :P
I just remembered I uploaded all of The Killian Curse season one onto megaupload and you can find them available to download at http://kiwifruit09.livejournal.com/774.html, they’re all in .flv format though which can be viewable with an flv player or windows player classic. I hope all links are still working fine!
@kiwifruit Awesome I’ll give those links a go! Yeah you are right about the filming for Reservoir Hill, they wait for the texts and feedback before filming the next episode.
@Jessica Hey, I don’t think Meryl actually appeared in Karaoke High, she just did the singing/vocals for one of the main characters. So when that character sang it was actually Meryl who was singing. It’ll be interesting to see in non the less. I wonder if it’s anything like ITV’s Britannia High lol.
