Jacob appears in several episodes of the first series/season, mainly in scenes featuring the group of Gladiators in their training sessions/fight scenes. Jacob Tomuri, as well as being an accomplished actor is also a stunt worker. The screenshots above are from episode 2, 7, 12 and 13. I noticed him in these episodes more than the others. But to be honest I wasn’t looking out for him as… Continue reading…

Michelle Ang : Close To Her Heart...

There is a lovely interview with Michelle Ang and Roseanne Liang speaking about the up-coming movie Girl Meets Boy. The interview by Charles Chan originally featured in The Star Online (it is also pasted below).

Michelle talks about education, her recent film and TV projects, her heritage and life in general. When she’s not acting, Michelle also works in the production side of the industry…

Key quotes:

There were times when she hit rock-bottom and she told her Kiwi boyfriend: “This is it. I have had enough. I quit. I am wasting my life.”

“I want to play many roles and different characters, not just appear in comedies and martial arts films,” says Ang who works in production on TV and commercial shoots to pay the bills when not acting.

“This industry is tough, somehow you have to find the faith and push past the doubts”

P-Money Everything - the albumMore news; our favourite New Zealand DJ/producer P-Money has announced the track listing to his forthcoming album Everything (which will feature the singles Everything and Angels). Meryl appeared in two of P-Money’s music videos, but she will now also be appearing vocally on his album!

Meryl Cassie will feature on track 8, Dance With You, on the Everything album. Dance With You also features hot NZ talent; PNC, Vince Harder & Mz J (Julie Taale). This release is big news for Meryl fans as it is would be a first musical release since The Tribe albums came out back in 2000/2001. I’m not sure how much she features on the track, but still, let’s hope we get to hear it! P-Money’s album Everything will hit NZ on May 3rd, can anyone say import?

Blast From The Tribal Past!

The Tribe Cast - Behind The Scenes Footage

Check out this great video showing The Tribe cast behind the scenes on series 4 of The Tribe, if you live in Germany you are likely to have seen it in 2003 on Ki.Ka, but for non German residents, like myself, this was the first time I saw it! It is in German, but the footage is great!YouTube Preview Image
The video was uploaded by TribeS7g17 (subscribe to them!). If you watch the whole of the video above (after those annoying blooper clips) you’ll see Meryl Cassie (Ebony) and James Napier (Jay) looking very coupley towards the ending of the vid!… Though I’m pretty sure in the interview they say they aren’t dating and are ‘good friends’.

A link to the vid was posted by Shabbs on tribeHeaven’s Twitter earlier this week. It is now also in The Tribe Video section – there’s a full description of all three parts of the Tribe Fever special there, part two is the one posted above. The rest of the footage was of The Tribe tour, most of it is exclusive to Ki.Ka from when the cast visited Germany.

Antonia Prebble in Sweeney Todd…

Antonia Prebble Antonia Prebble (who was Trudy in The Tribe) will be on stage in Auckland in the musical Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. The production, by the Peach Theatre Company, will run from Thursday 3 June to Saturday 26th June 2010 at the Maidment Theatre.

From Maidment Theatre: “Sweeney Todd is a thrilling tale of vengeance and true love, featuring some of the finest music ever written for the theatre. Set in Victorian London it tells the infamous story of Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street, who forms an enterprising business relationship with Mrs Lovett, the proprietor of the downstairs pie-shop.”

It’s unclear what role Antonia will play as yet, maybe a damsel in distress, but I hope she does a bit of singing! The talented cast of the production will also feature: Ross Girven, Lynda Milligan, Michael Hurst, Sophia Hawthorne, Paul Barrett, Ray Columbus, Jessie Cassin, Nic Kyle, Tyran Parke, Michael Lee Porter, David Aston, Cameron Douglas, Julian Wilson, Kyle Chuen, Jane Horder, Greg Padoa, Maria Satterfield, Catherine Reaburn and Tizane McEvoy.

With thanks to Trudy of MallRatsTwins for the news.

Fleur Saville leaving Shortland Street

Since 2005 Fleur has portrayed the character Libby Jeffries and on April 12th 2010 she made her exit from the TV soap. Check out the video of her final scene below with co-star Harry McNaughton (Gerald Tippet)…YouTube Preview Image

Fleur Saville as Libby Jeffries Fleur’s character was much loved in the series, viewers saw her charachter develop on the show since she arrived in 2005. Libby Jeffries was the PA to Ferndale hospitals CEO, so was considered to be in the know about what was going on in the top level of the hospital. Before her role in Shortland Street, Fleur was already known in New Zealand as the character Eve from children’s series Being Eve which was filmed and broadcast in New Zealand in 2001 and 2002. After Being Eve ended Fleur landed the role of Ruby in The Tribe series, which is where we know her well from.

Fleur is currently set to hit the stage once again at 2010 International New Zealand Comedy Festival, in the show The Giant Face. (This post has been back dated).

Goodbye Libby.

Reservoir Hill Wins Emmy!

Reservoir Hill - Thomas Robins and David Stubbs receive Digital Emmy Award

You may remember the news about Reservoir Hill being nominated for a Digital Emmy, well the series won! According to Stuff.co.nz:

In a statement released shortly afterward, International Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences president Bruce Paisner said New Zealand had made history by winning its first International Emmy.

Unfortunately Beth was not there at the ceremony, in Cannes – France, to pick up the award with the Reservoir Hill team. Creators Thomas Robins and David Stubbs were in attendance to pick up their award, I’m sure they are over the moon after the hard work that went into the series – congrats to the team on their landmark win!

Maybe this great news could see the production of a second series? Reservoir Hill, like The Tribe, was filmed in Wellington (around Porirua’s Aotea block) and featured local talent. Lucky New Zealand viewers can catch Reservoir Hill as a feature-length version on TV2 on 16th May at 12.00pm. The episodes can also still be seen online by New Zealand residents at TVNZ.
