Michelle Ang Wins Best Actress Award @ AFTA’s

Major congrats to Michelle Ang who won the AFTA (Aotearoa Film and Television Award) for ‘Best Lead Actress in a Feature Film’ for her role as Emily in My Wedding And Other Secrets.

The 2011 AFTA’s, previously known as the Qantas Film & Television Award, was held at the Viaduct Events Centre on November 12, 2011 in Auckland, New Zealand.

I am not 100% certain if Michelle Ang was in attendance to pick up the award herself as I can’t seem to find any photos of her at the event. If you know if she was there or found pics, give us a shout please :)

My Wedding And Other Secrets also won the Best Screenplay for a Feature Film, awarded to Roseanne Liang & Angeline Loo. Another notable, Tribe related win, was Kaitangata Twitch which won the Best Children’s/Youth Programme award. The series starred Miriama Smith.

The AFTA’s (formerly known as QANTA’s) was held at the Viaduct Events Centre on November 12, 2011 in Auckland, New Zealand. Antonia Prebble played Trudy in The Tribe. Robyn Malcolm played the guest role of Ma’am in series 2 of The Tribe. In Outrageous Fortune they played daughter and mother Loretta West and Cheryl West respectively.

Jay Ryan in Terra Nova

Jay who? Jay Ryan! Jay Ryan had a guest spot in The Tribe series 4 playing a ‘Blue’. He threatened to cut off Mouse’s hair if she didn’t give him her game code.

Jay Ryan is also known for his role as Jack Scully in Australian soap Neighbours. Back then he was credited as Jay Bunyan and sharing an appartment with fellow Neighbours star Michelle Ang (Tai-San in The Tribe) who played Lori Lee in the Aussie soap.

Okay it’s a bit out of the blue, but I’m enjoying watching Terra Nova, the new American series which is backed by Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park). Seeing a familiar (Tribe associated) face was great!

In episode 6 of season 1, Bylaw, Jay Ryan plays the character Curran. He is an officer who’s friend/colleague is murdered. Jay will re-appear later on in the series in the episode ‘Proof’.

Jay Ryan, more recently, has played the lead male character Kevin in TVNZ’s Go Girls.

I’ll update this post with a screen cap of Jay in The Tribe if I can get time to make one.

Dwayne Cameron in Antonio’s Secret

Check out Dwayne Cameron featuring in the short (award winning) film Antonio’s Secret. It is a short story about a time capsule and a magician…

The synopsis: “A time capsule is found under a home after the Christchurch earthquake. There is a series of predictions that turn out to be true except one. That the finder will have psychic powers. The owner is on a quest to track down the writer and finds he was a famous magician. Is the magician correct? Does the owner have psychic powers?”

Dwayne is looking pretty sexy in the video!

Meryl Cassie : Tirohana Estate Gig

Meryl Cassie is set to entertain at, The Tribe creator, Raymond Thompson’s vineyard on November 20th 2011.

As part of Toast Martinborough, a wine, food and entertainment festival, Raymond Thompson will be hosting a party at his vineyard Tirohana Estate. Kudos to Raymond Thompson for booking Meryl to entertain the attendees. Also performing at the event are Livewire and Drew Neemia, who had a guest role in The Tribe as Fisheye.

Meryl Cassie and Drew Neemia have previously performed together in The Jono Project and Christmas In The Park 2008.
