Well, it has been over a year since we had news about The Tribe book Blood Of The Judas. (It’s actual title is ‘Blood Of The Judas’, not ‘The Blood Of Judas’ as mentioned in previous posts – find out why below…).
Blood Of The Judas is a book co-written by Harry Duffin (who worked with Raymond Thompson in developing The Tribe from an idea to a TV series) and David Richard Fox (one of the best storyline writers on The Tribe series). The book tells the story of the early days of the virus and it has had a rocky road getting it on to the shelves.
Here’s the latest update from it’s co-author David Richard Fox, courtesy of Tribe fan Scott. Scott asked about what the book was about, to which David said: “It’s called ‘Blood of the Judas’. In the screenplay and novel some adults are still alive, hiding out in the city. They are referred to as ‘Judases’ (because they have betrayed the young), and hunted down ruthlessly by the Locusts, Demon Dogs etc. But I can’t reveal much more!!”
- Sounds pretty chilling! The kids are tracking down adults and possibly killing/enslaving them?
On the status of where the book is at with publishers, David said:
We did get the novel read by a couple of publishers who said they liked it, but no deal was forthcoming unfortunately. No reflection on the work, they just didn’t think there was a big enough market for it.
We went back to them when the series was brought back onto Channel 5, but still no joy. The publishing world is a mystery to me since there is clearly a ready-made audience out there for this material, (as your continuing loyalty to the show demonstrates).
Damn you publishers!!! Maybe approaching an Australian publisher may work as the series has recently kicked off there? Or, okay this is sacrilegious of me, remove associations with The Tribe series on the book? You can still have Demon Dogs / Locos in it, but don’t mention The Tribe on the cover! And have it as a standalone novel? [Just a suggestion! - I want to read it already!!!]
More news, though it is most definitely early days, David Fox also told Scott:
There was some talk of a new Tribe series being made in the States, and if that comes off, the film and novel are both back in with a chance.
Of course it may take years before such a series if made (if it does). But could there be an American remake of The Tribe series? What do you think? Would you watch it? [I sure would!] And will Blood Of The Judas ever get released? [It better!]
*Keep The Dream Alive*

Check out this great video showing The Tribe cast behind the scenes on series 4 of The Tribe, if you live in Germany you are likely to have seen it in 2003 on Ki.Ka, but for non German residents, like myself, this was the first time I saw it! It is in German, but the footage is great!
The video was uploaded by TribeS7g17 (subscribe to them!). If you watch the whole of the video above (after those annoying blooper clips) you’ll see Meryl Cassie (Ebony) and James Napier (Jay) looking very coupley towards the ending of the vid!… Though I’m pretty sure in the interview they say they aren’t dating and are ‘good friends’.
A link to the vid was posted by Shabbs on tribeHeaven’s Twitter earlier this week. It is now also in The Tribe Video section – there’s a full description of all three parts of the Tribe Fever special there, part two is the one posted above. The rest of the footage was of The Tribe tour, most of it is exclusive to Ki.Ka from when the cast visited Germany.
Please note: The competitions are both now closed.
Congrats to Ross (UK) who won the [old] Power & Chaos book.
Congrats to Julian (NZ) who won the signed Power & Chaos book.
Lucky viewers in Australia are still getting to watch The Tribe on tv channel ABC3. The first series has already finished broadcasting and the second series of The Tribe is currently past the halfway point.
Not only is the series broadcasting on the TV channel ABC3 (currently at 3.30pm on weekdays), but they are also showing it online (for Australian viewers only) so if your in Australia you can never miss an episode! Rewatch as the Mall Rats take on the Zoot worshipping Chosen.
However, amongst the fans that are discussing the show, as usual there are the haters.
Competition… Win A Signed P&C Book!
Were currently in 2010, already 10 years have passed since the episodes were first broadcast in the UK! But what do you think? Is The Tribe out of date and irrelevant? Or is it still entertaining? Let us know in a comment below.
All comments will be entered into a prize draw to win a signed copy of Power & Chaos written by Paula Boock. The book was released on 18th September 2000 in New Zealand. The book in the competition is a second hand copy, a first edition and like all good books it is ageing. As an added rare treat it is also signed by Daniel James who played Zoot throughout The Tribe series (click here to view an image – it is yellowing due to it’s age).
This competition is open to everyone worldwide so wether you’re in Australia, Finland or Hong Kong you can enter it! Continue reading…
This competition has now closed.
The winner will be announced shorty.

On Sunday 25th June 2000 Cloud 9 opened their doors to the public for a dual Open Day and Tribal Gathering, inviting people to get a glimpse into the television industry, meet stars of their shows and also win an on-screen part in The Tribe. The day was promoted with Burger King New Zealand, who as a tie-in for the Tribal Gathering displayed promotional posters (as pictured) and Tribe placemats in Burger King restaurants.
You might recognise the pictures – they were previously on the website GAKYA (Gummidge’s Aussie and Kiwi Young Actors ), which has been closed for a long time. The pics were rescued from their archives, they were originally supplied by ‘Lorraine’ (I’m trying to track her down!) some of her pics are also featured on the Kieren Hutchinson website. The video below was shot by Tribeworld/Cloud 9 at the event…

Though it’s 9 years since the event (not 10!), I thought I’d put it up as it was an interesting event held by Cloud 9, during one of the busiest years for The Tribe. Prior to the event Dwayne Cameron (Bray), Caleb Ross (Lex), Michelle Ang (Tai-San) and Meryl Cassie (Ebony) were on a promotional tour in England/Europe and returned to New Zealand on the 24th June, ready for the Tribal Gathering/Open Day for the following day, the cast had finished recording the album and were preparing for the filming of series 3 the following month!
According to Cloud 9 over 20,000 people attended the event, without a doubt making it a success. Continue reading…
The Harry Duffin interview is now up! You can read it here. Before Harry Duffin began working on The Tribe, he wrote for well known TV British series such as Eastenders and The Bill… In 1994 he became a founder member of Cloud 9 with Raymond Thompson and worked on their series aimed at children/teens… In 1997 Cloud 9 began work on what would be their most successful series to date, The Tribe.
In the interview Harry talks about the storylines, the issues dealt with in the series and the (hopefully) soon to be released The Tribe book Blood Of Judas. You can check the interview out here. You can read the German translation of the interview at Tribe-Cast.com, here. Unfortunately not all my questions got answered as I had more questions on The New Tomorrow… But hey, the interview is interesting non the less!
Harry Duffin currently resides in Spain. You can visit his website and find out more about him and his career to date here.
Ella Wilks arrived in The Tribe series 2 as Danni. Her first moments in the series involved holding a crossbow and aiming it at our hero Bray. She integrated herself herself into the Mallrats though, but her presence was under scrutiny by her fellow Tribe members – in the same way the character was scrutinised by fans as being too ‘Amber-like’…
In the interview Ella talks about getting into the character of Danni, working on and leaving the show, her friendship with fellow cast members as well as an insight to her travels and future plans. You may have loved hating Danni, but you gotta love Ella Wilks; to me this is the best interview so far – probably my biased opinion as I’ve always been a Danni fan ; )
Read the interview yourself, click here to check it out. The German translation of the interview can be found here. Thank you to those of you who submitted questions to Ella via this site and by e-mail, they were brilliant!
Well it is the ten year anniversary for The Tribe, so I thought I’d post these pics of a Tribe cake (made to order) by Joseph – a fan of the show. It sure does look tasty! The graphic used on the cake can be found here – it’s an old wallpaper I made for The Tribe. I feel hungry all of a sudden…
