Cloud 9’s Open Day & Tribal Gathering : Nine Years Ago…

The Tribe Cast : Tribal Gathering : At Cloud 9's Open Day : 25 June 2000

On Sunday 25th June 2000  Cloud 9 opened their doors to the public for a dual Open Day and Tribal Gathering, inviting people to get a glimpse into the television industry, meet stars of their shows and also win an on-screen part in The Tribe. The day was promoted with Burger King New Zealand, who as a tie-in for the Tribal Gathering displayed promotional posters (as pictured) and Tribe placemats in Burger King restaurants.

You might recognise the pictures – they were previously on the website GAKYA (Gummidge’s Aussie and Kiwi Young Actors ), which has been closed for a long time. The pics were rescued from their archives, they were originally supplied by ‘Lorraine’ (I’m trying to track her down!) some of her pics are also featured on the Kieren Hutchinson website. The video below was shot by Tribeworld/Cloud 9 at the event…

Though it’s 9 years since the event (not 10!), I thought I’d put it up as it was an interesting event held by Cloud 9, during one of the busiest years for The Tribe. Prior to the event Dwayne Cameron (Bray), Caleb Ross (Lex), Michelle Ang (Tai-San) and Meryl Cassie (Ebony) were on a promotional tour in England/Europe and returned to New Zealand on the 24th June, ready for the Tribal Gathering/Open Day for the following day, the cast had finished recording the album and were preparing for the filming of series 3 the following month!

According to Cloud 9 over 20,000 people attended the event, without a doubt making it a success. Continue reading…

Harry Duffin : Interview On The Tribe & Blood Of Judas

Harry DuffinThe Harry Duffin interview is now up! You can read it here. Before Harry Duffin began working on The Tribe, he wrote for well known TV British series such as Eastenders and The Bill… In 1994 he became a founder member of Cloud 9 with Raymond Thompson and worked on their series aimed at children/teens… In 1997 Cloud 9 began work on what would be their most successful series to date, The Tribe.

the-tribe-keep-the-dream-aliveIn the interview Harry talks about the storylines, the issues dealt with in the series and the (hopefully) soon to be released The Tribe book Blood Of Judas. You can check the interview out here. You can read the German translation of the interview at Tribe-Cast.com, here. Unfortunately not all my questions got answered as I had more questions on The New Tomorrow… But hey, the interview is interesting non the less!

Harry Duffin currently resides in Spain. You can visit his website and find out more about him and his career to date here.

Ella Wilks : The Tribe : 10 Year Anniversary Interview!

Ella Wilks as Danni in The TribeElla Wilks arrived in The Tribe series 2 as Danni. Her first moments in the series involved holding a crossbow and aiming it at our hero Bray. She integrated herself herself into the Mallrats though, but her presence was under scrutiny by her fellow Tribe members – in the same way the character was scrutinised by fans as being too ‘Amber-like’…

Ella WilksIn the interview Ella talks about getting into the character of Danni, working on and leaving the show, her friendship with fellow cast members as well as an insight to her travels and future plans. You may have loved hating Danni, but you gotta love Ella Wilks; to me this is the best interview so far – probably my biased opinion as I’ve always been a Danni fan ; )

Read the interview yourself, click here to check it out. The German translation of the interview can be found here. Thank you to those of you who submitted questions to Ella via this site and by e-mail, they were brilliant!

Tribe-alicious Cake : Mmmm, Yummy, Yummy…

Well it is the ten year anniversary for The Tribe, so I thought I’d post these pics of a Tribe cake (made to order) by Joseph – a fan of the show. It sure does look tasty! The graphic used on the cake can be found here – it’s an old wallpaper I made for The Tribe. I feel hungry all of a sudden…

Nick Miller : 10 Year Anniversary Interview, Now Up!

Nick Miller As Pride In The TribeNick Miller arrived in the beginning of series 3 of The Tribe, as the character Pride. Pride was a member of the Gaian tribe who re-united the Mall Rats with Amber. He also helped to defeat the Chosen and reluctantly settled into life in the city, far from his home in the forest…

Nick Miller : 10 Year Anniversary InterviewIn an interview with the actor, Nick talks about how he got the role in The Tribe, his character Pride as well as his work as a DJ. You can read the interview by clicking here. The interview is pretty direct, you’ll find Nick get’s straight to the point! His recent work includes appearing in the big-budget sci-fi movie Avatar, by James Cameron, as an airfield trooper.

You can check out the German translation interview at Tribe-Cast.com.

Calen Maiava-Paris : 10 Year Anniversary Interview Up!

calen-maiava-paris-as-mega-in-the-tribeCalen Maiava-Paris was a late arrival into The Tribe, appearing first in episode 41 of series 4 and later returning as a core character in episode 46. His arrival, as the Techno Mega, seemed to coincide with the departure of the Ved…

calen-maiava-parisYou can read the interview with Calen by clicking here. In the interview Calen answers questions you’ve put forward to him (pretty good ones) as he talks about his character, what he has been up to since leaving The Tribe, his current work as a tatooist at Trinity Ink (where the picture is nicked from!) and what lies ahead…

Reading from his answers, he definitely seems to be one easy-going, down to earth guy. Leave a comment on your thoughts if you like. To read the German translation of the interview, click here where you can visit the section up at Tribe-Cast.com.

Do stay tuned for further interviews, which will hopefully be up soon, thanks for visiting and leaving comments. Cheers.

The Tribe Novel : On Shelves This Year? A Tribal Revival…

The Tribe Book - The Blood Of Judas

The Blood Of Judas… Before The Tribe series began, Raymond Thompson teamed up with Harry Duffin to help write the series. It has now been around five years since The Tribe finished producing and airing. Since then Harry Duffin has teamed up with with David Richard Fox, another core writer who wrote episodes of The Tribe, and they have written a screenplay as well as a novel for the series. It was known that work begun on a movie for The Tribe back in 2003, the book/novel seems to be based on that screenplay.

The Tribe - Keep The Dream AliveCould the book have been the ‘tribal revival’ that Tribeworld was hinting at a while ago? (Back in 2007!?!)…

The novel, co-written by Harry and David, is titled The Blood Of Judas. In an interview for The Tribe anniversary section, Harry talks about working on The Tribe series and talks more about the book, hopefully the interview will be online soon, but till it is, here is an extract…

With the book Dave and I were given the opportunity to be more ‘real’ about what life would really be like if the world was left to teenagers to run. We had much less censorship about what we could portray than on a TV series that was marked as ‘childrens’ television. So, the screenplay and novel are a more ‘adult’ take on the original premise as you will see when they finally hit the page and the screen, which I am convinced they will one day.

Paula Boock - Power And ChaosThe book definitely sounds interesting. The previous Tribe book Power And Chaos, written by Paula Boock, covered the back story of Martin/Zoot, though it contained a few flaws and was not written by the actual people behind the TV series.

‘The Blood Of Judas’ is currently doing the rounds with publishers in both the UK and US. It may be early days to get excited, but hey, fingers crossed…

The Tribe Reunion 2008 : Final Photos Now Up!

The new pics feature Ashwath Sundarasen (Dal), Ella (Danni), Sarah Major (Patsy), Dwayne Cameron (Bray), Antonia Prebble (Trudy), Nick Miller (Pride), Jennyfer Jewell (Ellie), Michael Wesley Smith (Jack) and Beth Allen (Amber).

The pics of Ella, Victoria and Antonia are great. Also check out the funny one with Antonia’s ‘bunny ears’ as well as the candid one featuring MWS, Beth Allen and others. I think they were taken towards the end of the evening as they have their coats on, I’m not certain though…
