This blog follows the careers of the cast of Cloud 9's teen drama series The Tribe. The series was filmed in New Zealand in 1998 to 2004 and had a spin-off series The New Tomorrow. More info about this blog can be found here.
Jessie Gurunathan, who was Dawn in The Tribe, has landed a role in The Almighty Johnsons. Which sees her return to acting – yay!
The 10 part series is currently being filmed in New Zealand. Jess will be playing ‘Leah’, a girlfriend of one of “The Almighty Johnsons”. Tweeting about the role Jess said, ” I play a raunchy crazy girl with revenge on my mind……stay tuned (;” – We will! – Sounds like a fun role she’ll be playing too.
Not that you’ll need another reason to watch it, but Antonia Prebble will also be appearing in The Almighty Johnsons. Antonia has a guest role as the character ‘Sonja’. The Almighty Johnsons is by some of the team behind Outrageous Fortune which starred Antonia as Loretta West.

There are lovely reviews on 3news.co.nz and Stuff.co.nz on The Vagina Monologues, in particular, they mention both Beth Allen’s and Antonia Prebble’s performance in the production.
Here’s what 3news.co.nz said about Antonia Prebble:
With sass and spunk Antonia Prebble delivered a great monologue on the angry vagina. She listed her character’s reasons and summed up that a more vagina-friendly world would eliminate tampons, g-strings and the chilling unpleasantness of visits to the gynaecologist.
And on Beth Allen:
Beth Allen deftly portrayed pain, confusion and panic during one of her monologues when her character feared she’d lost her clitoris. There was a happy ending to the tale however and again Allen captured the elation and joy of her character’s freedom and empowerment.
Gabrielle Henderson, Jodie Rimmer and Rachel Nash are also mentioned in the review as they feature in the same ‘shift’ as Beth and Antonia in The Vagina Monologues.
The Stuff.co.nz review said the following: “Last night I was lucky enough to stumble upon Brooke from Shortland Street (Beth Allen) with the bonus of Loretta from Outrageous Fortune (Antonia Prebble). Both were very engaging, as were the other ladies who joined them – Gabrielle Henderson, Rachel Nash and Jodie Rimmer”.
Antonia Prebble had a second TV appearance on TVNZ today (the first one is here) this time she was on TV3′s Campbell Live news strand appearing in a pre-recorded interview about her work on the charity album being released for the charity Shine (previously mentioned here).
The news article reported about the album and the charity with Antonia speaking briefly about her involvement. Check out the video:
Antonia duets on a track with Massad Barakat who also wrote the track they performed! The track plays in parts of the video.
Antonia Prebble is famous in New Zealand for her role as Loretta West in Outrageous Fortune, though we know and love her as The Tribe’s Trudy. The charity album for Shine is due for release in November this year, though I’m sure alot of exciting will be happening to promote till the release date!
Antonia Prebble appeared live today on TVNZ’s Good Morning. In the interview she talked about the up-coming stage production The Vagina Monologues as well as the future direction for her career… Check it out:
She looks pretty fab as usual! According to Antonia she will be on stage in The Vagina Monologues the same nights that Beth Allen will be on, so you’ll definitely be in for a treat if you go on those nights (see here via Jebrill). Though any night you go will be a treat as the production features a truly talented line-up of New Zealand’s female actors. Further details can be found on this post here.
In the interview there is also a mention of expanding her career outside of New Zealand, going towards Australia and USA, perhaps even farther afield? Well you have plenty of fans supporting you all the way Antonia! All the best.
Check out these lovely promo images for the Auckland 2010 stage production of The Vagina Monologues. The VM features a plethora of talented New Zealand actors, amongst them Antonia Prebble (Outrageous Fortunes Loretta West/Trudy in The Tribe), Beth Allen (Shortland Street’s Dr Brooke Freeman/Tribe’s Amber) and Fleur Saville (Shortys Libby Jeffries/Being Eve/Tribe’s Ruby).
The full cast of The Vagina Monologues have been been split into teams of four and when you turn up at the Basement you won’t know which four will perform the monologues for you on the night… However, the comments on this pic here reveal the nights Beth Allen will be on stage! Also Beth Allen talks about the production on Shortland Street’s website.
Antonia Prebble will be lending her vocals to an amazing new charity CD being released in New Zealand for Christmas (it’s going to be released in November 2010).
Antonia Prebble will be singing an original Christmas song, as a duet, with New Zealand musician Massad Barakat-Devine. Massad is only 16, has an impressive vocal range and has already released an album. Check his website out for more info and follow his Twitter for updates on his work including his duet with Antonia (which is how we found out about it). They’ll be recording the song next week hopefully.
We can’t wait to hear their tune! For more updates on the upcoming iconic Kiwi album check out this Facebook page.
Earlier this week Antonia Prebble was starring in a stage production called Idiots, written by Nic Sampson and directed by Tom Sainsbury, Peter Salmon, Dena Kennedy and Jonathan Brugh.
Idiots is a comedy production that follows a set of, er, Idiots as they go about their daily activities… Antonia got a good review in her role as the ‘disingenuous receptionist’ on TheatreReview.org which said: “… Antonia Prebble’s performance in the ‘Receptionists’ scenes (where the bitchy receptionist shows the new assistant receptionist the ropes… or the staples, as it happens); a particularly hackneyed theme which rarely enjoys such comic perfection”.
The production ran for three nights at Te Karanga Gallery, Auckland on 20th July 2010 to 22nd July 2010. And what made a change from usual theatre productions is that at the end viewers were asked to pay what they thought the production was worth, so it ran on a ‘pay what you think it’s worth!’ basis. More details are in the press release (below). Continue reading…
On Tuesday 13th July 2010, More FM Manawatu broadcasted an interview they did with Antonia Prebble relating to Outrageous Fortune as the sixth season of the series premiered that evening, have a listen to it below…
Viewing figures for episode one of Outrageous Fortune season 6 had the highest TV viewing figures of the night. Not only that, it also now holds the highest rating ever for TV3, the channel it airs on. More info on that here.
The cast and crew of the series got together at Robyn Malcolm’s house for the series premiere, I wrote about it previously for AntoniaPrebble.com – you check it out there for more info.
Fleur Saville, Beth Allen and Antonia Prebble are just three (of the many) top New Zealand actresses to appear in The Vagina Monologues at the Basement theatre.
The Facebook page here has more info (also pasted below).
News comes via @Jebrill from (the recently updated) Tribe-Cast.com (the Fleur Saville pic can be seen in better detail there).
As previously mentioned, Beth Allen is also producing as well featuring in the production and all three actresses are definitely no strangers to the stage. If you’re in the area head on down, the Vagina Monologues will run during August 25th -September 11th 2010 at the Basement Theatre, Auckland. Continue reading…
