Right, here’s a new thing to the blog, DVD reviews (or general reviews) of Tribe related things. First up is a review of Tongan Ninja
. If you would like to do a review for a film featuring a member of The Tribe cast, then get in touch :)
Movie : Tongan Ninja
Rating : 12 (UK) / Languages: English only
DVD Extras : Sadly none on the region 2 DVD. No subtitles either.
Starring : Sam Manu as Sione Finau/Tongan Ninja, Jemaine Clement as Marvin/Action Fighter
From The Tribe : Charley Murphy Samau (Charlie in The Tribe 4), Bevin Linkhorn (Ned The Tribe 3), The Beat Girls (The Smile in The Tribe 2).
About The Film : The Tongan Ninja follows the lead character Sione Finau and his arch nemesis Marvin. The film begins with a young Sione (played by Charley Murphy) and Marvin in a plane, which is being flown by Sione’s father. Marvin damages the plane and it crashes on an island. Sione’s father dies on the island (a funny death scene!) and Sione and Marvin end up in a training camp for ninja’s – which is conveniently based on the island they crashed on.
Bevin Linkhorn, who works for the New Zealand media company Gibson Group, has been promoting the company’s latest venture, online site Mash Pit Comedy.
The site let’s users upload comedy clips, edit/mash them up and reupload them. The best clips, as well as being featured on the site, will then be shown on TV. Scoop has more info on the venture here.
A quote from Bevin about the site: “It’s a good opportunity for any kiwi, and grassroots comedians and actors in particular, to show us their stuff and mash up the work of others too.”
Bevin Linkhorn, Ned in The Tribe, will be in a team taking part in the two day play 2009 competition this September.
His team have 48 hours to prepare a 10 minute play which will be performed at the Bats theatre in Auckland. Previously Bevin has been a judge at the event, this time round he will be a competitor, good luck to you Bevin!
More info can be found here.
Bevin Linkhorn will be on the judging panel for the Two Day Play competitions being held during New Zealand’s Fringe festival in February. Bevin is no stranger to the theatre and performing arts, he has starred in, written and even produce several productions. It all no doubt qualifies him as being a judge!
The event will see competitors developing and putting on a theatre play in the two day time frame.
Okay this isn’t such major news, but hey I liked him in The Tribe, so wanted to post about it! Lol. Bevin starred as Ned in series 3 of The Tribe and also featured in indie film Futile Attraction, alongside Michelle Ang (Tribe’s Tai-San) and Lee Donoghue (Spike in The Tribe and current Shortland Street hotty!).
