Here’s a review from Total Film:

Having made the film Loch Ness 10 years ago, Geordie director John Henderson has to look further afield for this sort-of-sequel about a boy (Daniel Magder) who stumbles upon a mythical beastie in a Canadian lake. Brought to life by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, this seal-like critter is the undisputed star of this wholesome homily to valuing family and respecting nature. Sadly, he’s not on screen enough to excuse a witless treasure-hunt plot involving a missing, er, drill bit. With New Zealand filling in none too convincingly for Ontario and performances so stiff they make the animatronic Mee-Shee look like Brando, this is pretty wishee-washee.

The review doesn’t sound too good, but the film is aimed at kids… It was filmed after Jacinta (full name Jacinta Wawatai-Woodhouse) left The Tribe, which was ages ago… The link to the films imdb page is here. An article from 2002 regarding the film, with Jacinta Wawatai is here.
