Shortland Street Cast : 2011 Group Photo Shoot

Sally Martin, Ari Boyland, Lee Donoghue and Beth Allen in Shortland Street

One for fans of Shortland Street – the sexy cast of the hit New Zealand medical drama got together for a bi-annual photo shoot this year (see some of 2009′s here). The group shot looks amazing with a sort of artistic/painted feel to it, check it out in all it’s glory below…

We have also got hold of a few of the hot new single 2011 promo shots of the cast members who have appeared on The Tribe; Ari Boyland (Brodie Kemp – The Tribe’s KC), Beth Allen (Dr. Brooke Freeman – Tribe’s Amber/Eagle), Lee Donoghue (Hunter McKay – Loco in Tribe 1, Spike in Tribe 2) and Sally Martin (Nurse Nicole Miller – Kandy in The Tribe 4). If you are having trouble finding them in the large pic, click here for the mini pic/guide of who’s who.

Power Ranger fans will also note that Ari Boyland was the Blue Lion Ranger – Flynn McAllistair – in Power Rangers RPM, Sally Martin played Blue Wind Ranger – Tori Hanson – in Power Rangers Ninja Storm (as well as guesting in Dino Thunder/Operation Overdrive) and Beth Allen has had guest spots in Power Rangers Operation Overdrive and Space Patrol Delta as Vella/Ally Samuels.

With thanks to South Pacific Pictures for the photos by resident Shortland Street photographer Jae Frew.

- The solo shot of Beth Allen was taken in 2010.

Shortland Street : Summer Fling Fun!

Lee Donoghue, Hunter McKay in Shortland Street

Lee Donoghue (Spike in The Tribe) and Sally Martin (Kandy in The Tribe) are two of the members of the Shortland Street cast taking part in Summer Fling.

Summer Fling is a Facebook app where you pick a character from the New Zealand medical soap-drama and you can have a ‘relationship’ with them. It is actually pretty good, not as cheesy as it sounds!

If you are in the UK and snowed in, give it a go and add some sunshine to your days with the flirty fun from the Shortland Street hunks and babes. It’s just a shame that Beth Allen and Ari Boyland aren’t also involved.

If you’re on Facebook and fancy a bit of fun, check out the Summer Fling here, go on, you know you want to! Continue reading…

Lee Donoghue : Playing Dad In ‘Ollie’

Lee Donoghue in Ollie

Lee Donoghue (Shortland Streets hunky Hunter McKay / The Tribe’s Spike) has been busy this month filming in the new independent movie Ollie. In the film Lee takes on the role of Adrian, a young single father to an eight year old named Ollie, who has tourette’s syndrome.

The movie – shot on a shoestring – has been written, directed and produced by Simon Clentworth. Ollie follows a day of the life of Ollie, on this day the disorder manifests itself in Ollie’s fantasy of reuniting his seperated parents Adrian and Sarah… And so with his coveted book of Junior Science Experiments and his older friend Mickey¹s help, he builds a string telephone through the depressed streets of his neighborhood in the hope of bridging the gap between the seperated couple.

It definitely feels like a heart felt feel-good movie, definitely one I’d be interested in seeing. Lee Donoghue looks great from the stills, there’s heaps more over on Facebook…

Keep up-to-date with the latest happenings from Ollie on the official Facebook page. The movie is currently in post-production and is set for a 2011 release.

The cast of Ollie comprises of Fynn Ellison, Lee Donoghue, Rachel Clentworth, Haze Reweti, Mark Davies and Helen Officer. Stills by Paul Walker and Sally Cunningham.

Lee has previously been in film, he was in the 2004 independent movie Futile Attraction which also starred Michelle Ang, Bevin Linkhorn and was directed by Antonia Prebble’s cousin Mark Prebble.

Lee Donoghue : Two Cool Cats

Lee Donoghue

Lee Donoghue and pet cat Cyclops Aww I just saw this pic and had to post it up. It’s of Lee Donoghue, who was Spike in The Tribe – currently Hunter McKay in Shortland Street, with his cat Sinbad. I’m sure though he has renamed the cat Cyclops (see his Tweet here).

I can’t decide who’s cuter, Cyclops or Lee! Cyclops was adopted by Lee Donoghue from the Auckland SPCA, who posted the pic on their Facebook. You can follow the lovely Lee D. on Twitter by clicking here. The QANTAS Film & Television Awards 2010

Beth Allen - QANTAS film and television awards 2010

This evening (well morning in the UK!) was the hottest awards night in New Zealand, it was the QANTAS Film and Television Awards held at Auckland’s Civic Theatre. Check out the cool snaps above of some of our favourite cast members who have been in The Tribe! Photos are © Throng, who gave a great commentary of the event via Twitter.

Beth Allen, Lee Donoghue (Shortland Streets Dr Brooke Freeman and Hunter McKay) and Antonia Prebble (Loretta West in Outrageous Fortune) were present at the ceremony. Don’t they all just look stunning. I’m loving Beth Allen’s dress, long and flowwy. Antonia Prebble’s sparkling party frock and Lee Donoghue is looking sharp in his suit!

Unfortunately Beth Allen did not win the New Idea People’s Choice award she was nominated for (it went to Paul Henry), but hey she’s the real winner in our books! Miriama Smith (Kaitangata Twitch) also lost out in the Best Supporting Actress award she was nominated for, it went to Lisa Chappell (The Cult).

Shortland Street Returns To The UK!

Claire Solomon, Kieran Mitchell and Libby Jeffries in Shortland Street - Played by Emily Robins, Adam Rickitt and Fleur Saville

In the UK the channel Living TV will begin airing two episodes of Shortland Street every weekday from Monday 23 August 2010 at 15.00-16.00 (repeating at 10.00-11.00 the following day). Living will begin showing Shortland Street from it’s 2007 season.

The series will begin broadcasting from the episode that UK actor Adam Rickitt (Kieran Mitchell in Shorty) first appeared in the series, which is awesome news for Tribe fans. As Tom Hern (Baxter Cormack/Tribe’s Ram), Lee Donoghue (Hunter McKay/Tribe’s Spike) and Fleur Saville (Libby Jeffries/Tribe’s Ruby) were all part of the core cast around this time. Also we’ll get to see Vicky Rodewyk (Gel from The Tribe) appearing in the series as Madison Lodge in the first week the series airs on Living!

It is a shame the series is on Living on not on the free channels on Freeview. Another thing to bear in mind is that Living showed Outrageous Fortune in the UK for one series only, so who knows how long they’ll stick wilth Shorty?

Either way, welcome back to the UK Shorty!
With thanks to Scott for the info via Twitter.
