Back in March, New Zealand’s Woman’s Day magazine did a feature about Megan Alatini (The Tribe’s Java/Meryl & Monique Cassies older sister). It is a lovely article, truly inspirational, as Megan talks about the ups and downs in her relationship with husband Pita Alatini and how they renewed their wedding vows after 10 years of marriage.
The lovely Mary M, has sent in scans of the article, there’s some pretty gorgeous pictures of the couple in there! As well as a transcript of the article, you can read it below…
Some key quotes:
“When I first met Pita he was a shy skinny little Tongan boy from Otara, both of us 13 years old”, Megan Alatini.
“I am so blessed that you are my wife, best friend and companion and may this continue for at least another 20 years”, Pita Alatini.
“We are such a close and tight family, so it means quite a lot to do something special like this. It’s special for all of us”, Tonica Alatini (Pita and Megan’s eldest daughter).

It’s freezing cold, it’s snowing and it’s raining over here in the UK. Meanwhile over in South Africa, some people are having a jolly good time in the sunshine, including one former Tribe star: Megan Alatini!
South African social website Thunda.com have pics featuring Megan Alatini (she played Java in series 4 & 5) partying with friends and family during a ‘Sunday Sessions’ event on the 10th January 2010 at Mzoli.
There’s more pics of Megan having a good time on the site, but I can’t be bothered to track them all down and link them, because watching them enjoy the sunshine is making me depressed. Megan’s sister Meryl has however posted them all on her Facebook.
With thanks to Meryl’s Facebook and Jessica of MeganAlatini.co.nz. I need some sun.
Megan Alatini (Java in The Tribe 4 & 5) performed the New Zealand national anthem “God Defend New Zealand” at the rugby Bledisloe Cup 2009 final in Tokyo, Japan, where the New Zealand All Blacks played against the Australian Wallabies.
The match took place on Friday October 31st 2009 (yesterday). Once again her singing must have done the job as the All Black’s won the match! Nice one! – She previously sang the anthem for the South African Springboks in the Tri-Nations final, they later went on to win also. She looks absolutely gorgeous in her black dress, very classy!
Sorry for the poor vid quality, one things for sure Megan is an awesome singer. With thanks to Mary for the info and TonyTai2009 for the video.

According to New Zealand sweetheart Megan Alatini she and her sisters Meryl and Monique Cassie, who are heading over to Tokyo, will perform at club FiftySeven in Roppongi on 30th October.
The following day on the 31st October she will be singing the New Zealand national anthem when NZ play Australia for the Bledisloe Cup at the Tokyo National Stadium.
And on 6th November, 17th November and the 8th of December Megan will be holding music workshops at the Kamaishi town hall (which is the area in Japan that she lives). She’ll be doing the music workshops with her daughter Tonica and sister Meryl Cassie. The info is from MeganAlatini.co.nz – Megan’s official site, you can also check Megan Alatini out on Facebook.
Her move to Japan has definitely not kept her back from entertaining the masses!
Check out the lovely pic of Megan Alatini performing the South African national anthem at the Rugby 2009 Tri-Nations final. She is dressed in a gorgeous traditional South African outfit. Her singing must have gone down a treat as the South African Sprinboks went on to win the trophy in their match against the New Zealand All Blacks.
Megan also performed with her sisters Monique and Meryl Cassie in the half time show. Sadly there are no pics (as yet!) of the Nubian Angelz. [edit] You can find out about the gorgeous tribal necklace Megan is wearing in the pic at Born To Bead, the piece designed by Lisa-Jane looks awesome up close!
An article on Throng has posted one of Megan Alatini’s Facebook updates where it is mentioned that Megan Alatini will sing the South African national anthem at the Tri Nations match they have against New Zealand. Not only that but she will also perform with her sisters Monique and Meryl Cassie during the half-time match entertainment and also post match entertainment. So if you have a chance the view the Rugby, skip the boring bits and check the girls out singing! The match is on Saturday 12th September 2009 in New Zealand.
All the best to the Angelz with their performance! Sadly I don’t have access to the channels broadcasting the match. But if you do and can take screenshots, please do get in touch!

Megan Alatini and Monique Cassie have been left defending their family after being falsely accused for assault. On the 1st April, a radio station ‘The Rock‘ received a call from a listener claiming that Megan Alatini was involved in a punch-up in New Zealand. It was surely an April Fool’s prank, as Megan was in Japan – where she currently resides…
However, after speaking to family members, it was revealed that their mother Barbara was verbally abused in the streets of NZ while she was accompanied by her daughter Monique Cassie. Just a case of a run in with a nutter… The full article with the accounts of both gals can be read below or here. Sorry for the old Siva pic – I can’t find a recent publicly made single image of Monique!
