Jay Ryan : The Beastly Beauty

Jay Ryan and Kristin Kreuk - Beauty And The Beast

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - Pilot Image - Kristin Kreuk as Catherine Chandler, Jay Ryan as Vincent KellerJay Ryan who guested in The Tribe series 4 as a ‘Blue’, has landed an amazing lead role in the US. He’ll be playing the beast (named Vincent Koslow) in American network CW’s Beauty And The Beast. He’ll star opposite Smallville (and Edgemont!) star Kristin Kreuk who is playing Catherine Chandler – the beauty.

Here’s a preview video of the series, aimed at the Vampire Diaries/Twilight/Gossip Girl audience:

More recently Jay Ryan appeared in a guest role on Terra Nova. Back in New Zealand he was the lead male in the TV series Go Girls. He starred in Australian soap Neighbours as Jack Scully playing the boyfriend to Michelle Ang’s Lori Lee.

With thanks to @bertrigby/Catherine for the info :D

Jay Ryan in Terra Nova

Jay Ryan in Terra Nova

Jay who? Jay Ryan! Jay Ryan had a guest spot in The Tribe series 4 playing a ‘Blue’. He threatened to cut off Mouse’s hair if she didn’t give him her game code.

Jay Ryan is also known for his role as Jack Scully in Australian soap Neighbours. Back then he was credited as Jay Bunyan and sharing an appartment with fellow Neighbours star Michelle Ang (Tai-San in The Tribe) who played Lori Lee in the Aussie soap.

Okay it’s a bit out of the blue, but I’m enjoying watching Terra Nova, the new American series which is backed by Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park). Seeing a familiar (Tribe associated) face was great!

In episode 6 of season 1, Bylaw, Jay Ryan plays the character Curran. He is an officer who’s friend/colleague is murdered. Jay will re-appear later on in the series in the episode ‘Proof’.

Jay Ryan, more recently, has played the lead male character Kevin in TVNZ’s Go Girls.

I’ll update this post with a screen cap of Jay in The Tribe if I can get time to make one.

Shortland Street Pulled From Living

Shortland Street : Living UK

It was only last month that New Zealand drama Shortland Street returned to UK screens on Living TV. Well, a month after it began airing, the New Zealand medical drama has been pulled from the main Living channel and will only broadcast daily on the Living Loves channel at 6pm daily. The removal from the main Living channel was due to poor ratings.

So, if you have the ‘Living Loves’ channel, try to catch the series while you can! The UK run of the series currently features Fleur Saville (The Tribe’s Ruby), Lee Donoghue (Spike in The Tribe) and Emily Mowbray (Dimples in The Tribe – Series 2) as it’s regulars. The future at the moment looks kind of bleak for the show, it’s unclear how many episodes they have bought, so like I say, catch it while you can!

With thanks to the Shortland Street fans at Digital Spy for the info.

Blast From The Tribal Past!

The Tribe Cast - Behind The Scenes Footage

Check out this great video showing The Tribe cast behind the scenes on series 4 of The Tribe, if you live in Germany you are likely to have seen it in 2003 on Ki.Ka, but for non German residents, like myself, this was the first time I saw it! It is in German, but the footage is great!YouTube Preview Image
The video was uploaded by TribeS7g17 (subscribe to them!). If you watch the whole of the video above (after those annoying blooper clips) you’ll see Meryl Cassie (Ebony) and James Napier (Jay) looking very coupley towards the ending of the vid!… Though I’m pretty sure in the interview they say they aren’t dating and are ‘good friends’.

A link to the vid was posted by Shabbs on tribeHeaven’s Twitter earlier this week. It is now also in The Tribe Video section – there’s a full description of all three parts of the Tribe Fever special there, part two is the one posted above. The rest of the footage was of The Tribe tour, most of it is exclusive to Ki.Ka from when the cast visited Germany.

Please note: The competitions are both now closed.
Congrats to Ross (UK) who won the [old] Power & Chaos book.
Congrats to Julian (NZ) who won the signed Power & Chaos book.

Lucky viewers in Australia are still getting to watch The Tribe on tv channel ABC3. The first series has already finished broadcasting and the second series of The Tribe is currently past the halfway point.

Not only is the series broadcasting on the TV channel ABC3 (currently at 3.30pm on weekdays), but they are also showing it online (for Australian viewers only) so if your in Australia you can never miss an episode! Rewatch as the Mall Rats take on the Zoot worshipping Chosen.

However, amongst the fans that are discussing the show, as usual there are the haters.

Competition… Win A Signed P&C Book!

Were currently in 2010, already 10 years have passed since the episodes were first broadcast in the UK! But what do you think? Is The Tribe out of date and irrelevant? Or is it still entertaining? Let us know in a comment below.

All comments will be entered into a prize draw to win a signed copy of Power & Chaos written by Paula Boock. The book was released on 18th September 2000 in New Zealand. The book in the competition is a second hand copy, a first edition and like all good books it is ageing. As an added rare treat it is also signed by Daniel James who played Zoot throughout The Tribe series (click here to view an image – it is yellowing due to it’s age).
This competition is open to everyone worldwide so wether you’re in Australia, Finland or Hong Kong you can enter it! Continue reading…

Power And Chaos Winner + New Look Blog

Hello, just a quick post. As you can see the cast site has had a bit of a makeover, there’s still a few problems sorting out the links at the top bar and also the contact form, but it seems okay so far. I think it might be easier to read with the black text on the white background, however it is a bit sterile looking. It needs tribalising!!!

This site is as much mine as it is yours. So please give your opinions on the new look! What do you like, what don’t you like? It will be helpful thanks.

Onto the prize winners…

Power And Chaos. The winner of the Power and Chaos book was… *drumroll* Muneera J from Israel, congrats to you! If you didn’t win I’m sorry, the winner was picked at random, but stay tuned for more competitions!

P-Money. The winners have also been announced for the P-Money CD’s, they are: Samantha J L – UK, Tomas E – France and Petra H J – Sweden. I’ve been told you’re prizes are on their way.

Do you want to win more Tribe gear? There’s a raffle draw running on the Sector 4/Fractured Alliance website, so do check that out also. You’re donations also go to the good cause of keeping the dream alive through this fan project!

A little bit more… I have an email address! clare@tribeheaven.co.uk First two people to email me with the message “I Want A Tribe CD!” will receive a You Belong To Me Tribe CD. I’m sure the address is working. Try it out! Congrats to Benji and Ross P who won the CD’s : )

And wasn’t it great seeing The Tribe back on Five on Sunday?

The Tribe : Returning To UK Screens On Five’s Shake!

The Tribe - returning to Five in the UK - October 2009

It’s like being reunited with an old friend you haven’t seen for a long, long, long time. It’s time to re-live those early mornings of watching Cloe clutching her teddy bear as she trembles in fear of the fast approaching Loco’s before Amber and Dal swoop in to rescue her…

Sunday October 4th 2009 will see The Tribe return to it’s home on UK TV broadcaster Five. Episode one of series one will be broadcast, running from 11.35am to 12.05pm.

Aswell as The Tribe the Shake! teen-strand is going to be re-introduced, with a line-up including Disney show Hannah Montana. However, according to this article on Broadcast Now, the schedule will be a trial run through to the end of the year, so if it is not successful the shows may not finish broadcasting. But, thank you channel Five regardless, hopefully new fans will join the series and it will hopefully re-ignite The Tribe franchise.

So wether you’re nursing a Saturday night hangover, bored, need a brief trip back in time, or even if you’re a Power Ranger fan, do tune in to The Tribe! Featuring hot New Zealand talent in some of their first mainstream TV roles; including Beth Allen, Dwayne Cameron, Antonia Prebble, Meryl Cassie, Ari Boyland, Michelle Ang and Caleb Ross.

Get everyone viewing! With thanks to TribeRevival for the info! Do join in and check out the discussions over there too.

Right, I’m off to get some pink hairdye, this is an occassion fo sho!

[edit] Tribeworld has been updated with the news!

Qantas Film & Television Awards… Right Here, Right Now!

Just a quick temporary post. I have found myself to be up early today. And lo! The Qantas Film and Television Awards are currently running in New Zealand. You can follow the event on Twitter at the following accounts:

NZTV (awards, photos & style commentary)
StopPressNZ (award winners)

Images will appear on Throng here and here in due course.

Pics from NZTV: Antonia Prebble, Miriama Smith, Lee Donoghue

From The Tribe cast… I do believe Fleur Saville is handing out an award. Antonia Prebble has so far been spotted on the red carpet. Tom Hern will be there representing the I’m Not Harry Jenson crew, who are up for two awards *fingers crossed* on some wins! I’m sure Beth Allen will also be there with the Shorty Street gang also! There’ll be plenty of pics online also in the coming day.

PS… I’m on Twitter here!

I’m Not Harry Jenson sadly lost out on the award for Best Feature Film with a budget of less than $1 million.
