Right, here’s a new thing to the blog, DVD reviews (or general reviews) of Tribe related things. First up is a review of Tongan Ninja
. If you would like to do a review for a film featuring a member of The Tribe cast, then get in touch :)
Movie : Tongan Ninja
Rating : 12 (UK) / Languages: English only
DVD Extras : Sadly none on the region 2 DVD. No subtitles either.
Starring : Sam Manu as Sione Finau/Tongan Ninja, Jemaine Clement as Marvin/Action Fighter
From The Tribe : Charley Murphy Samau (Charlie in The Tribe 4), Bevin Linkhorn (Ned The Tribe 3), The Beat Girls (The Smile in The Tribe 2).
About The Film : The Tongan Ninja follows the lead character Sione Finau and his arch nemesis Marvin. The film begins with a young Sione (played by Charley Murphy) and Marvin in a plane, which is being flown by Sione’s father. Marvin damages the plane and it crashes on an island. Sione’s father dies on the island (a funny death scene!) and Sione and Marvin end up in a training camp for ninja’s – which is conveniently based on the island they crashed on.
The Te Papa
museum in Wellington are presenting a series of shows/events for the Matariki festival (Māori New Year). One of the events organised is the Seven Sisters Day
, a free day of music and entertainment at The Marae
on 11th June
The fabulous Vanessa Stacey (who played Alice in The Tribe), has been named as the MC for the event, she will be hosting the day. We know she has good presenting skills from her brief time in the UK on The Core.
Vanessa has a part with the group Whiskey & Sly. More recently she has been seen billed as a solo artist performing the blues and gospel music. In April she performed at “The Gospel According To…” event in Wellington.
You can keep up with Vanessa on mySpace, there’s also some music you can listen to on there, I particularly like the track Brother – check it out!
