Aww I just saw this pic and had to post it up. It’s of Lee Donoghue, who was Spike in The Tribe – currently Hunter McKay in Shortland Street, with his cat Sinbad. I’m sure though he has renamed the cat Cyclops (see his Tweet here).
I can’t decide who’s cuter, Cyclops or Lee! Cyclops was adopted by Lee Donoghue from the Auckland SPCA, who posted the pic on their Facebook. Michelle Ang recently filmed a short film named The Potential Wives of Norman Mao playing the character Suzy Fong. The short was filmed the week of September 6th in New York City.
The premise of ‘The Potential Wives’ short is as follows: “Norman Mao is an overweight, and socially-awkward junior businessman from Hong Kong, who at the age of 33 is still a virgin and unwed. Desperate to get him married, his parents take him on an international junket across the globe to find him a worthy Chinese wife”.
The Potential Wives of Norman Mao is narated by George Takei (of Star Trek fame, he was Sulu) and aswell as Michelle Ang features: Ed Lin (Norman Mao), Tina Chen (Mrs. Mao), Ron Nakahara (Mr. Mao), Cindy Cheung (Winnie Wong), Wai Ching Ho (Ling Ling Ng) and Soomi Kim (Angela Chin).
You can read the script by Derek Nguyen, who also directed the short, here. According to casting adverts the role Michelle plays, Suzy Fong, had the following character breakdown: “Miss Chinatown princess, bubbly, cutesy, prissy. Must be able to work with a Chihuahua”.
The short will be released by Mangusta Productions, were looking forward to seeing this already! Screenshots anyone?
Antonia Prebble was recently interviewed by New Zealand’s New Idea Magazine. In the article, by Natalie Scarr, Antonia talks about studying as well as acting and how the two come together. Check the article out by clicking here or read it below.

A press release has been released by The Court Theatre for the up-coming production of Cabaret which has Antonia Prebble in a lead role, as Sally Bowles. Check it out below.

Beth Allen has added her name to the Two Drinks Max campaign. The campaign aims to get the New Zealand government to lower the drink/drive limit in NZ and to get New Zealand driver’s to moderate their drinking and take responsibility for keeping their roads safe.

Beth Allen and her partner Charlie McDermott have officially named their theatre production company Royale Productions. The name seemed fitting for the couple as their full names are Elizabeth and Charles…
The production company has already worked on stage productions The Reindeer Monologues, Christ Almighty, Vagina Monologues and Killer Joe. Their new production Mojo (which features Charlie in the cast) is runs from October 26th to November 6th at The Basement Theatre.
Mojo written by English playwright Jez Butterworth, tells the story of a power struggle in a gangster-operated club scene, where characters Sweets, Potts, Skinny, Mickey, and Baby battle for control over teen idol and money-maker Silver Johnny.

New Zealand actress and TV personality Miriama Smith (who was Moz in The Tribe 3) made an appearance in new TV3 comedy series WANNA-BEn.
Check her out in the video below where series host Ben Boyce performs his comedy musical skit ‘Men In Back’, about being an extra in the film industry…

The music video features Miriama Smith with Blair Strang as the two actor leads, strangely enough the pair also worked together on NZ series Kaitangata Twitch (they are pictured together in the top pic of the article here). Also in the video is New Zealand personality Oliver Driver (who was ‘fired’ from NZ show Sunrise which is referenced in the video!).
Miriama appeared in episode 2 of the series, entitled ‘Movie Star’, broadcast on 15th October 2010. The series WANNA-BEn is pretty funny stuff, with public pranks, street dares and celebrity interviews that push the boundaries. Antonia Prebble (The Tribe’s Trudy) will also be making an appearance later on in the series… Stay tuned.
Remember news about the movie Girl Meets Boy? It stars Michelle Ang (formerly The Tribe’s Tai-San) in the lead role. Well, the movie has been renamed to My Wedding And Other Secrets.
Described as: “A Romeo and Juliet story with a Kiwi-Asian twist, My Wedding and Other Secrets is a romantic comedy in which a young couple, James (Matt Whelan) and Emily (Michelle Ang), have to overcome the expectations of Emily’s parents in order to bring happiness to everyone.”
The movie has been picked up by Sony Pictures who will distribute the film, nationwide, in New Zealand with makers South Pacific Pictures. The film is set for release on Thursday March 17th 2011. The news comes via Flicks.co.nz (pasted below).
