American Tribe Series + BOJ Update...

The Tribe USA

Well, it has been over a year since we had news about The Tribe book Blood Of The Judas. (It’s actual title is ‘Blood Of The Judas’, not ‘The Blood Of Judas’ as mentioned in previous posts – find out why below…).

Blood Of The Judas is a book co-written by Harry Duffin (who worked with Raymond Thompson in developing The Tribe from an idea to a TV series) and David Richard Fox (one of the best storyline writers on The Tribe series). The book tells the story of the early days of the virus and it has had a rocky road getting it on to the shelves.

Here’s the latest update from it’s co-author David Richard Fox, courtesy of Tribe fan Scott. Scott asked about what the book was about, to which David said: “It’s called ‘Blood of the Judas’. In the screenplay and novel some adults are still alive, hiding out in the city. They are referred to as ‘Judases’ (because they have betrayed the young), and hunted down ruthlessly by the Locusts, Demon Dogs etc. But I can’t reveal much more!!”
- Sounds pretty chilling! The kids are tracking down adults and possibly killing/enslaving them?

On the status of where the book is at with publishers, David said:

We did get the novel read by a couple of publishers who said they liked it, but no deal was forthcoming unfortunately. No reflection on the work, they just didn’t think there was a big enough market for it.

We went back to them when the series was brought back onto Channel 5, but still no joy. The publishing world is a mystery to me since there is clearly a ready-made audience out there for this material, (as your continuing loyalty to the show demonstrates).

Damn you publishers!!! Maybe approaching an Australian publisher may work as the series has recently kicked off there? Or, okay this is sacrilegious of me, remove associations with The Tribe series on the book? You can still have Demon Dogs / Locos in it, but don’t mention The Tribe on the cover! And have it as a standalone novel? [Just a suggestion! - I want to read it already!!!]

More news, though it is most definitely early days, David Fox also told Scott:

There was some talk of a new Tribe series being made in the States, and if that comes off, the film and novel are both back in with a chance.

Of course it may take years before such a series if made (if it does). But could there be an American remake of The Tribe series? What do you think? Would you watch it? [I sure would!] And will Blood Of The Judas ever get released? [It better!]

Harry Duffin : A Tribal Revival Interview

Tribe Revival earlier this week posted an interview with Harry Duffin. Check it out here (if you haven’t done so already!).

Unfortunately he was unable to go into detail with all the questions put forward to him, mainly the ones concerning The Blood Of Judas, The Tribe 6 and a Tribe Movie. But he did however give an insight into the casting side of things as well as talk about the ‘yin and yang’ of The Tribe – Amber and Ebony.

Also if you missed it earlier on in the year, check out the 10 years anniversary interview with Harry Duffin here on tribeHeaven.

Harry Duffin : Interview On The Tribe & Blood Of Judas

Harry DuffinThe Harry Duffin interview is now up! You can read it here. Before Harry Duffin began working on The Tribe, he wrote for well known TV British series such as Eastenders and The Bill… In 1994 he became a founder member of Cloud 9 with Raymond Thompson and worked on their series aimed at children/teens… In 1997 Cloud 9 began work on what would be their most successful series to date, The Tribe.

the-tribe-keep-the-dream-aliveIn the interview Harry talks about the storylines, the issues dealt with in the series and the (hopefully) soon to be released The Tribe book Blood Of Judas. You can check the interview out here. You can read the German translation of the interview at Tribe-Cast.com, here. Unfortunately not all my questions got answered as I had more questions on The New Tomorrow… But hey, the interview is interesting non the less!

Harry Duffin currently resides in Spain. You can visit his website and find out more about him and his career to date here.

The Tribe Novel : On Shelves This Year? A Tribal Revival…

The Tribe Book - The Blood Of Judas

The Blood Of Judas… Before The Tribe series began, Raymond Thompson teamed up with Harry Duffin to help write the series. It has now been around five years since The Tribe finished producing and airing. Since then Harry Duffin has teamed up with with David Richard Fox, another core writer who wrote episodes of The Tribe, and they have written a screenplay as well as a novel for the series. It was known that work begun on a movie for The Tribe back in 2003, the book/novel seems to be based on that screenplay.

The Tribe - Keep The Dream AliveCould the book have been the ‘tribal revival’ that Tribeworld was hinting at a while ago? (Back in 2007!?!)…

The novel, co-written by Harry and David, is titled The Blood Of Judas. In an interview for The Tribe anniversary section, Harry talks about working on The Tribe series and talks more about the book, hopefully the interview will be online soon, but till it is, here is an extract…

With the book Dave and I were given the opportunity to be more ‘real’ about what life would really be like if the world was left to teenagers to run. We had much less censorship about what we could portray than on a TV series that was marked as ‘childrens’ television. So, the screenplay and novel are a more ‘adult’ take on the original premise as you will see when they finally hit the page and the screen, which I am convinced they will one day.

Paula Boock - Power And ChaosThe book definitely sounds interesting. The previous Tribe book Power And Chaos, written by Paula Boock, covered the back story of Martin/Zoot, though it contained a few flaws and was not written by the actual people behind the TV series.

‘The Blood Of Judas’ is currently doing the rounds with publishers in both the UK and US. It may be early days to get excited, but hey, fingers crossed…
