This blog follows the careers of the cast of Cloud 9's teen drama series The Tribe. The series was filmed in New Zealand in 1998 to 2004 and had a spin-off series The New Tomorrow. More info about this blog can be found here.
Here’s some news on our loveable rogue Daniel Aidan Weekes Hannah! (He was Ved in The Tribe series 4)…
Back in May I made three posts about Jennyfer Jewell, Ari Boyland and Amelia Reynolds featuring in short films at the New Zealand V 48 HOUR Festival. Well, I just found out today that Daniel Weekes Hannah (or should that be Aidan Michael?) also featured in an entry.
Dan appeared in Lies & Fabrications – The Martin Boyle Story, which you can view below…
Dan definitely gives a strong performance as the scattered, [slightly worryingly] pshychotic, geeky film maker. The video short you see above is also a re-edit of the original short.
The full crew involved in the production were team Cola Razzoo: Craig Johnson (BUREAU), Richard Larsen, Rose-Marie Kirkup, Nic E Lane, Ian Hammond, Aidan Michael Weekes, Elizabeth Carpenter, Rowan Pierce, Stacey Brummer and Miki Glowacki. (Infor from Bureau.
Jennyfer Jewell has long been a favourite actress of mine since seeing her in The Tribe as Ellie [aswell as being in the Enid Blyton TV series]. So, imagine my excitement at seeing something new featuring Jennyfer Jewell!
In the short film The Visitor, Jennyfer plays the role of a mother, whos daughter is being visited by an imaginary friend… In comes a priest for an exorcism… Check it out:
I am totally loving the long hair! The short film was submitted for the V 48HOURS short film festival in New Zealand, though the video is the rough cut. The film was filmed the weekend of 16-18th April 2010. I do think she is still too young for a mother role – I guess she’d make a good M.I.L.F/’yummy mummy’ perhaps? But anyhows, I do hope to see more of Jen Jewell in the future, whether it’s Jennifer Jewell or Jennyfer ;)
The Visitor was directed by Tomoko Uryu. Featuring: Te Ao O Awhero Little as Whetu, Jennifer Jewell as Mother, Angeline Quick as Sydney Mason and Andre Munroe as the priest.
Ari Boyland (aka KC in The Tribe), took part in the V 48HOURS 2010 – a short film festival. In the short film Chicane, directed by Alastair Tye Samson, Ari Boyland plays the character Brent. Check it out below, it is pretty good for a five minute short…
The film was shot during the weekend of 16-18th April 2010. Chicane was an Auckland city finalist and won Best Cinematography and Best Use Of Line. It was also nominated for Best Actress and Sexiest Short. The short also stars: Anoushka Klaus as Micah, Jodie Hillock as Rachel and Jason Fitch as Sidney.
Amelia Reynolds (Tally in The Tribe series 3/Paradise Cafe’s Chloe) made a brief appearance in the short film Longdrummer, which was entered into the V 48HOURS Film Festival New Zealand. See if you can spot her in the short film below:
Can’t wait to spot Amelia? Try skipping to 2:37 to see her shuffle!
The short film made it into the Wellington finalists selection. Longdrummer was directed by Dean Hewison and featured the following cast: Richard Falkner, Sean McChensey, Jess Manins, Theo Gordon, Raquel Sims, Adrienne Roberts, Ethan Morrison, Thomas Raethel, Libby Butcher, Jarl Benzan, Emile de la Rey, Olivia Devitt, Lisa Devitt, Bonne Becconsall, Amelia Reynolds, Ash Dearnley, Nova Waretini-Hewison, Eugene Becconsall, Rebecca Leydon, Tim Gordon, Paul Brophy, Michelle McPartlin.
Here’s some Dwayne Cameron news for his fans out there!
Earlier this month Dwayne Cameron was filming in a short film in Auckland called The Puzzle. The short film is directed by Danny Phillips, it is set in 2010 and is about a woman who loves doing jigsaw puzzles, but then one day ends up in a puzzle she’s working on – an 1880s house.
Jill Roberts who plays the lead role in the short film told The Timaru Herald about working on the short. She said about Dwayne Cameron: “Dwayne is an excellent actor, a very strong but subtle performer”.
More news… According to his updated agency profile, Dwayne has been in rehearsals for an up coming Thomas Sainsbury theatre production The Continental Monologues at the Te Karanga Gallery. Dwayne already featured in Thomas’ play Psychopaths earlier this year. I’m guessing The Continental Monologues will open to theatre audiences later this year.
Check out this fanpage dedicated to Nick Miller (aka Pride in The Tribe) on Facebook.
On the page you’ll find exclusive pics from a short movie Nick filmed in 2009 called Rollmance, directed by James Hanline. I’m sure the title of the production explains it all! In the short film Nick plays the character Greg who is in a wheelchair. Check out the pics here. Hopefully a video will be up there soon.
Last year Nick also took the lead role in an episode of the TV series Beyond The Darklands playing the murderer Antonie Dixon. The episode he featured in will air on New Zealand’s TV One channel on Tuesday 2nd February 2010 at 9.30pm. The episode synopsis is at the bottom. Expect to see pics on his Facebook fan page, thanks to Jebrill of Tribe-Cast.com for informing me about it.
This year Nick Miller will also be appearing in Spies And Lies, a TVNZ tele-movie, as a police officer. Fellow Tribe star Antonia Prebble (Trudy) is also in the cast. Continue reading…
Check out Lucas Hayward (Sammy from The Tribe 4 and 5) in a short video entitled Knife Life Notebook a from his YouTube channel (while you’re there, why not subscribe?). I believe he is going as Lukas Hayward as a screen name.
It might not be a high quality production, but given the tight time constraints and budget, it’s not that bad. And kudos for using Kings Of Leon. Could he be another Tribe cast film maker in the making? Me thinks so. Oh and he is looking pretty hot!
Amelia Reynolds (who played Tally in The Tribe 3) took part in the New Zealand’s 48 Hours film making festival as one of the performers in the short film Otack Otack Otack Fall by Killah Walz/Orca. The filmmaking event sees the production of short films from beginning to end within the alloted time. Check out Amelia’s performance in the video below…The short won the title of the best film in the Wellington heats. Amelia Reynolds scored an award also for best actress in the Wellington awards. Nice one!
Jacob Tomuri, who played Luke in The Tribe series 3, features in a short film called Ergotism. The film, by Stefan Rochfort is “a black comedy following three friends trying to outrun a powerful psychedelic poison”. It is also based on a true story… Jacob plays Mat, David Van Horn as Shotgun and Eve Gordon as Sharon.
The short was released in 2008, so this is old news, but it is doing the rounds at film festivals – appearing next at the 25th Hamburg International Kurzfilm Festival in Germany on June 4th and 7th 2009. More details from the festival website are here. The IMDB listing is here. I believe the film maker is hoping to turn it to a feature film in future.
The 2008 short film Take 3 (aka Auditions I Have Known) by director Roseanne Liang has had an excerpt put online, check it out below. It stars Michelle Ang (Tribe’s Tai-San / Neighbours’ Lori Lee / Xena’s Akemi) as the character Melanie Shum…
The rest of the cast are as follows: Li Ming Hu as Lisa Fong, Katlyn Wong as Kaylee Hing, Justine Hunter as Casting Director (Doctor), Michael Lowe as Casting Director (Ninja), Toby Sharpe as Casting Director (Schoolgirl) and Richard Thompson as Casting Director (Bootygirls). The short follows three asian girls on a series of auditions. This post has been back dated.
