Aww there’s a lovely article on Lee Donoghue, the former Shortland Street star who was Spike in The Tribe, in New Zealands Woman’s Weekly magazine.
From the article the Kiwi actor said:
“Going to New York really changed everything for me,” explains Lee, who spent nine weeks in the Big Apple last year, attending Susan Batson’s prestigious acting school. “Right before I headed home, I went to Hollywood and had a meeting with one of the top actors’ agents which, to my surprise, went really well. I was blown away and it left me with a big decision.
My contract was due to expire at Shortland Street not long after I got back and the US agency didn’t want me to sign on for another 12 months in case something else came up.”
You can read the full article and find out more about Shortland Street’s Hunter McKay and read about his partner, actress Angelic, in the full article on the Woman’s Weekly website, here.
Beth Allen and Sally Martin attended an animal blessing ceremony at St Matthews Church in Auckland on 2nd October 2011. The blessing followed a march/parade, organised by the SPCA Auckland, of animals and the owners down Auckland’s Queens Street.

Beth Allen, who plays Dr. Brooke Freeman in the hit NZ soap Shortland Street received a storyline many girls (and no doubt guys) would love, filming a scene with the hot Rugby lads of New Zealands All Blacks.

The scene featured All Black players Jerome Kaino, Kevin Mealamu and Anthony Boric. It is due to broadcast on TVNZ on September 9th 2011. For more on Shortland Street, visit the official website and Facebook page. Header image is from The New Zealand Herald.

One for fans of Shortland Street – the sexy cast of the hit New Zealand medical drama got together for a bi-annual photo shoot this year (see some of 2009′s here). The group shot looks amazing with a sort of artistic/painted feel to it, check it out in all it’s glory below…

A religious apparition appeared in the Shortland Street studios in New Zealand… The Virgin Mary appeared in someone’s coffee mug!
Damon Andrews, who was The Guardian in The Tribe, and is currently a writer for Shortland Street, talked to TV reporter Alison Pough about reactions to the appearance of The Virgin Mary in a fellow Shortland Street writers coffee mug. Check him out below…

Damon Andrews appears in the video at about 1:08.

He lost out to Nick Oswald as New Zealand’s Cleo bachelor of the year 2011, but that hasn’t stopped our favourite bachelor Ari Boyland from dreaming up his own family plans.
In NZ Woman’s Weekly magazine Ari talks about starting his own family as well as recently becoming an uncle to Ezra, his sister Ruth’s daughter. The article appeared around March 13th in the mag.
Check the article out, there’s lovely family pics of Ari and the Boyland clan:
In the article Ari also talks about a period of uncertainty where he found it hard to find work. There’s also a mention of The Tribe, which he starred in at the age of 10 as KC, he’s 23 now, time sure has gone quick. He currently plays Brodie Kemp in Shortland Street.

On Saturday 26th February 2011, Beth Allen got married to Charlie McDermott. The couple have been working together at the Basement Theatre, which is managed by Charlie, as well as creating their own production company, Royale Productions.
In an article exclusive to New Idea magazine, Beth and Charlie shared their wedding with readers. Their intimate wedding was held in Beth’s parents (Laraine and Jolyon) garden with friends and family in attendance. Amongst those who attended were Antonia Prebble, who was one of Beth’s bridesmaid. The ceremony was performed by Alan Spence (The article said: ‘They were married by Alan Spence, the father of one of Beth’s friends’, we are assuming that it is Victoria Spence’s father – though were not 100%sure).
Key quote from the article:
Beth shed a few tears listening to bridesmaid Antonia Prebble’s speech. She met the Outrageous Fortune star on the set of The Tribe in Wellington, at age 14.
‘She talked about how we first bonded over the fact we both had terrible hairstyles – mine bleached blonde with the intentional feature of 6ins roots, and hers a bright purple bob’
With special thanks to Emma H for the magazine scans and to Jebrill for info on the article. You can read more about the couple and their engagement/wedding plans over at BethAllen.Webs.

Check out the promo:
If you are in the UK and snowed in, give it a go and add some sunshine to your days with the flirty fun from the Shortland Street hunks and babes. It’s just a shame that Beth Allen and Ari Boyland aren’t also involved.
